Puddles' Drums - My Amber Sonors

My Kit is a beautiful amber 6 Piece Sonor 2003 Fusion Set. It's configured for a 6 piece off set grouping of 10" 12” 14” 16” toms, 22x18 bass. My snare is came with the kit until I can afford to upgrade, Dunnett snares are obviously the way I would like to go. I use Remo Clear Pinstripe heads on the toms, Evans Emad base head (SWEET!!), and recently I have been using an EVANS Hydraulic black for the snare, it gave it a nice snap to the sound and made me want to keep the snare a little longer. To dampen things a little I use MoonGel pads on the bottom and top heads, inside the drum.

I use Sabian AAX, Hand Hammered and my favorite HHX cymbals. The configuration starting left to right is an awesome sounding set of 14" HHX Power Hats (friggin sweet man!!), 16" AAXplosion Crash, 10" Hand Hammered splash, 16" Hand Hammered Sound Control Crash, 16" HHX Evolution Crash, 18" HHX Studio Crash, 10" HHX Evolution splash, and a huge 22" Hand Hammered Rock Ride.

I use the Sonor 200 Series stands that came with the kit, snare, hi-hat and three cymbal stands. I added a Pearl stand to the right for the ride. I frankensteined them with add on mounts and TAMA holders for the cymbals. The is a Pearl P-2002B, my throne is a Roc-n-Soc Nitro with back rest, wicked cush for my tush let me tell ya. I also use Vic Firth 5AN and more recently started using the Extreme 5AN, just a bit longer, more power.

Hey Man! - thanks much! - I've been (and still do) tweek the setup somewhat, too much and I mess up plenty. I just picked up a Mapex B990A dual cymbal stand used for $100 in Ottawa... I am going for the minimal gotta lug around aproach...

Looks like one...but because of the shadow falling on it I am not sure...

I've been fine tuning the cymbals, with that HUGE 22" ride it's hard to get the placement just right for bell riding and double floor hits, most locations I end up hitting the ride or choking the sticks under it. I think I did it though, just layering the 16", above the 18" above the 22"... using a used Mapex double cymbal stand... Works pretty good i guess...

Hey man - It's the HH Duo... sweet little splash, like glass... love it during a funk snare\splash bash... I'd actually like to add a 12" splash too...

Hey man! thanks - Yeh! I love Sabian, when I was a kid I went to a clinic and eversince used Sabian. the HHX's are awesome, by far the best I ever owned. I am a pretty ecletic player and they sound good no matter what I am playing.

Thanks for the comments guys (gals) - I liked the feedback, I have a bit more tweeking to go with the stand setup, been tweeking for over a year now with this kit and just about got it right... My last one I never got it just right... go figure.

I just bought a double cymbal stand from Mapex. LOVE IT!!! wicked heavy duty and they have a triple one too... I have a TON of tama arms to sell though now...:-)

I am going to keep this kit as a practice one, and build my own drums soon...

A couple of things I'd like are a nice accent cymbal, china or effects kinda thing on the right, and would like another snare and tamable's on the left to add to the sounds. I am also looking for a better way to hang my cowbell and tambourine - alternatly I'd like a left foot pedle to use with a wood block or something...

Nice... I love how your bas drum can be played from both sides. It would be cool if bass drums came with spurs facing both ways so one second you can be doing jazz and the next you can be doing metal or something.

Ya - errrr - well about that. I had my head in the shop for some silk screening. Not a big fan of 70's oomph!!! - so I just put on an old head for resonance.... with the pin 3 it sounded really deep though.... I got a black ebony on there now... till my Drum Art head gets done anyway...
