Hey guys,
So yesterday I went to a Thomas Lang clinic, and saw him perform. It was amazing. They raffled away a free 18 inch sound caster powerful crash, and I happened to win it. Thomas Lang signed it, and I talked to him for a little bit. I understand Byzance is their top of the line stuff, but how does Sound Caster rate? I played it, but I can't tell if I like it or not, like should i play it with my A Customs or should I hang it on a wall for show? I don't know whether or not I should buy a new cymbal stand for this.. I know its basically all opinion but im stumped.

Soundcaster are a professional Meinl line.. sadly not available in Australia...
Feel free to send it my way!
It is very worthy of playing, i doubt anyone but a hardcore drum collector would pay big dollars for a signed thomas lang cymbal, and even then, unlikely.
The cymbal is meant, primaril,y for loud music, though it can be used effectively in other genres. It is made of a special bronze alloy, b12 i believe.

unless you plan on selling it, use it. A signature is good for one thing, a cymbals dollar worth. To me, i dont wouldnt care if a cymbal was signed by gene krupa, just as long as it sounded good.

The Soundcaster series is up there with the Byances. It is indeed a B12 alloy which pretty much puts it right between a B8 and B20 in terms of sound. I think it's a really good professional level cymbal that would work well for any type of music where you'd want a little more brightness. Man I sound like one of those guys who writes those blurbs for ads for cymbal companies. It necessarily doesn't have to be used for loud music, they do have a "Powerful" line of the Soundcasters that are designed for loud music though.

Well, the Soundcaster line is pretty much in the middle of all. (to see the sound aspect)
It is between Loud/penetrating and low volume/Smooth and it is between Dark and bright. A good cymbal line...
Maybe play them for a while to develope an opinion about it...if you like them, my opinion is to play them. Doesn`t matter whether there is a signature of Thomas on it.
If you don`t like it...do what you wanna do. I would hang it up because it is something personal from Thomas.
just my 0.001 cents. ha...

All the Meinl series after the Classics are professional level. The Soundcasters arent made specificly for metal, they work for everything, but since it's a powerful model it may be a bit to much.

I think you should play it if you like it, and you were lucky enough to get it free!!
But be careful not to get it dirty, when you clean it the signature may come off....

I would go to a frame shop or craft store and buy a 20 x 20 or 22 x 22 inch deep picture frame and put that baby on the wall. Since you cant decide if you like it or not why take a chance on messing up the signature. Just my opinion.

I would do the same thing as GRUNTERSDAD put that beast on the wall.

FYI
I had no idea that Meinl was now making Turkish cymbals. Apparently, the Byzance cymbals are B20s hand made in Turkey. Wow! I just bought a 20" Byzance Traditional China ;)

Well... if memory serves me correctly, they are hammered in turkey then sent back to germany to be polished.
Or so the sales rep said. but most of their babble is sales pitches anyway!

Yes, they go back to Germany for printing. But, other than that, they are made in Turkey.

What is the story with MEINL CUSTOM SHOP CYMBALS?
My buddy just gave me a 17" Custom shop crash cymbal and I can't find that line on the MEINL website.
Did they stop making them?

Does anyone know anything about Meinl's "Sterling" line? I have an old Meinl Sterling and I have no idea about the alloy and quality. It sounds decent so it's at least a mid-range I guess... But other than that I am in the dark about this cymbal.
