All right, I'm starting to get serious about playing drums now after about a year of just fiddling around. I know the number one tip people say is to get a couple drum lessons, but I live in a small town and have little money (college kid) and the closest place that has lessons is Nashville which is 2 1/2 hours away. That being said, I was wondering what you guys would recommend as a practice "system". When I sit down to start practicing most of the time I'm aimless. So, what do you guys think I should do? Basically I'm looking for some instruction on what I should work on from day to day (I knwo people progress differently, but at least a rough idea). If you know any good books or DVDs that are a progressive development system that I can immediately and easily apply to the kit I would love to hear some recommendations. Like I said, I'm in college so I don't have too much free time and I need my practices to be a efficient as possible. Thanks.

it's pretty hard to tell to tell you what books and dvd's you need not knowing what direction you want to take but I would click on the sticky above this thread called DRUM INSTRUCTION DVD & BOOK REVIEWS
Depends on what level you are at. Are you a beginner, intermediate, semi-pro? Also try using the search function, there have been many threads on this topic.

I've read some reviews and searched some threads...I just want people's opinions. For future reference, I;m I guess an advanced beginner to low intermediate and I'm mostly a rock drummer but I like jazz too.
Thanks nutha, those articles helped a lot.
You could post some videos of you playing so people could analyse then and maybe see where you are lacking. Do you own a practice pad, practice kit or an electric/acoustic kit?

Yeah I have a practice pad, acoustic set, and I have access to an electric set anytime I want. BTW, I was in band for 7 yrs so I know rudiments and reading music. I taught myself piano with a book that said what to play in progression and it worked very well and quickly. Just looking for something similiar but with drums.
