View Full Version : new saluda crashes
just got two new saluda crashes in the other day. an 18" diamond and a 16" prototype from an as yet unreleased series that they can't talk much about. they both sound great, and especially the 16" looks amazing. i've also got 14" mist-x hi-hats. i'll get pictures up when i can

pimp. What would you compare the cymbals to to the cymbals in the zildjian line? I want acrash that sounds similar to a a custom 16" fast crash, but not sure which line to go w/.

I have an 18" Diamond thin crash on my wish list. Probably right after I get my next ride. What does the prototype look like? Black hammer marks and a bit of a dirty top? That's what my prototype splash looks like and I really love the sound of it. I've got 14" MistX hats as well.
Tama- My MistX crashes sound sort of similar to the Zildjian A stuff, but I couldn't be specific to an exact model. I just listened to a few samples of cymbals on the Cymbal Cellar site that were close to the same weight and size as my cymbals.
I really love the MistX and Diamond lines from Saluda. MistX is very bright- great all around cymbal. Diamonds are darker/complex/trashy that I love. I think they blend well. I suppose sort of like combining As and Ks.

i can't really tell you, because i haven't tested any zildjians recently to compare to. what you should do is email them and mention that you want the a custom fast crash sound, they'll know what's best

the prototype is striped, with three concentric bands of one finish (that seems similar to yours, dirty with some black hammer marks mainly noticible on the bell) over a shinier finish that looks somewhat like the diamonds. the first band is from the center to about 2" past the bell and the other two are about 1 1/4" wide, leaving smaller bands of the diamondy finish in between and at the edge. its quite striking, a very unique look. as a matter of fact, its the first cymbal from this line that's been released.
how is your prototype labeled? because all mine has is the Saluda logo (probably because they're keeping quiet about this line)
i really like my mist-x hats. they grew on me a ton within the first month i had them, so i'm hoping that will happen with the crashes too and they'll sound even better

My prototype only has the Saluda logo on it- no actual series. Yours sounds so interesting! Kind of like some of the Sabian cymbals I saw not long ago where it was lathed/raw/lathed/etc. I would actually like to have some crashes like my splash. I think they may be thinner than the Diamonds.

Go look @ the PDF's official Saluda cymbal thread and youll see the prototype series w/ the lathed/ unlathed rings coming out from the bell. They look like the Istanbul Sultans.

Ah man that new prototype is very pretty. I'm definitely going to be checking that line out at some point. It does look similar to my prototype splash. I wonder if my splash was just a stepping stone to that new prototype, or if they'll have a full line like mine as well. I saw in that thread a crash that looks like my splash. I bet it sounds sweet. Ahhhhhh.... If I didn't need a new drum kit I'd blow all that money on new cymbals. hahahahah
I wonder what a ride like that new prototype would sound like. It looks vaguely similar to the Bosphorus Antique series, which I wanted a light ride from. Hmm... decisions, decisions. I wonder how they compare to the Diamond series.
my guess is your splash is going to be part of a full separate line. saluda is working on a lot of new stuff - 2 series about to come out plus my prototype's series.

Very nice. How much did that Prototype crash cost you? And what kind of sound are you getting from it?

Saluda never ceases to impress me with the style of their cymbals. that reminds me of a Paiste sig. dark energy ride. good purchase.

it cost $100 flat. i'm not entirely sure how to describe the sound. it's explosive, with a hint of trash or complexity. sorry, no sound clips, i dont have the equipment
