Were does everyone buy their cymbals? I have recently found this awsome site for cymbals. The site is called pulse music. Their cymbals are way cheaper than guitar center and musicians friend.
Here they are

I used to get cymbals wherever I could find them cheapest but then I started to get a feel for the sound that I wanted out of each cymbal. With that in mind I no longer buy cymbals unless I hear them and play on them in person.

The guys at guitar center are pretty good about not ripping me off and there's a percussion store here in Houston that I stop by every now and then which has a pretty good cymbal selection as well.

In fact the owner of the percussion shop has told me to bring the rest of my cymbals in next time I'm looking to buy so that I can play my current setup along with anything new and make sure I'm getting exactly what I want. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Lord knows I've gotten enough cymbals home and mixed them into the kit only to realize that it wasn't really the sound I was looking for; never would have guessed that a 17 inch crash would be higher pitched than a 16 inch.

No two cymbals will sound the same (even within the same make model and size) so if I'm gonna drop $200 on something I want to know exactly what I'm getting. I'd gladly pay a 20% premium for that ability.

Anyways, just my $0.02.

I have found a shop in my area with 80ft long wall of cymbals, a bunch of brands too. I'll probably go there to try out all the sorts.

Good site, but it's missing some models, like the fast crashes from Zildjian A, unless their the same as paper thins, I don't know.

prices still seem pretty steep to me. I bought my 20" medium A custom ride for 170 Canadian at long and mcquade. brand new. also bought a 10" A custom splash for 55$. i didn't see anything on that site that was near those prices.
especially the hi hats.

I buy off of ebay some, drum shops a little, and also www.thecymbalshop.com online (for AGOP and Alchemy).

Each cymbal is going to be different, so I usually try and buy locally. I'll get a cymbal off ebay if I can get a really good deal on it, I got my UFIP Hi Hats for $100, because I figure if I don't like the cymbal and I got a good deal I can always turn around and sell it. I'll usually go to the local Guitar Center here to buy most of my cymbals, they usually have a good selection of used cymbals and they usually cut me a good deal. I've found the biggest key to Guitar Center and other large chain stores is to go during off peak times, the times where there aren't 300 little kids playing the loudest they can on all the $3k sets.
