im looking for some sabian 13" hats with that lovely funky, crystal clear, cutting bite to them, so that those double stroke roles really cut. Kinda like the zildjian A custom mastersound hi hats, but with maybe a bit more complexity. if already got a set of 14" AAX stage hats which has me covered for anything rock/heavy, but in my new hi-hats im looking for something that will let me play jazzier/funkier stuff. any suggestions?

13" Sabian Fast Hats would work pretty well.

I use 14" paiste signature soundedge hats for funky tight stuff and rock and use 14" zildjian k mastersounds for the darker side of things.. both lovely hats...

if you are looking to spend a bit of cash on a decent pair of sabian hats, you would be really happy with AAX fusion hats. but if you want a pair of hats that will cut through any type of music then you need 13" Hand Hammered Fusion Hats... i have been using them for about 3 months and i am telling you..no matter what type of music you play you will love them...check them out. let me know what u think. get the sabians with the holes in the bottom (srry, to lazy to look up the name) they are very crisp and clean.
and i never thought i would do this or say this, but some cheap Sabian B8 are very crisp and they definatly have thier own sound. compare them with your eyes closed, you'd be suprised.
Im not sure if is my technique (not tooting my own horn, but i SERIOUSLY doubt it) i can get that razor sharp back-accented double stroke out on my k mastersounds unless im really pressing into the hi-hat stand

Do those hats bend or break with heavy play?

No. I let the top cymbal move freely a bit in the clutch and have given them a full on workout at several outdoor concerts in the last few weeks with more to come regarding the 13" K Lights. Really can get a great full sizzling shimmer out of them hit hard on certain tunes partly open with no concern about hurting them. A very heavy metal/punk player with larger heavy sticks with a tight clutch might have different results but i've got no concerns myself regarding these hats about causing damage or breakage. Great sounding hats!.
