View Full Version : Help me choose some heads for my sonor force 2005
Ive only had my force for a few months and I still havent changed the stock heads!
I know I know, shame on me!
What would you suggest for this kit?
specs are
8X8 tom
10X9 tom
12x10 tom
16X16 floor tom
22X17.5 bass drum
Im thinking about going with coated heads, But I cant decide g2 coated or ec2 coated, whats the big difference just the edge control rings, if so does it make a huge difference over the g2?
Im open to all suggestions.

Well most of the time anything is better than stock. I have heard from people that even regular EC2s are dead (in their opinion). I would go with the g2's because they are much more recomended here and i have really heard nothing terrible about them.

I have a sonor 3003 and just put clear emperors on the top of the toms and left the bottoms as stock. I cant stress how good they sound with those heads

The G2's are much more sensitive and versatile than the EC2's. On the other hand, the EC2's are more durable. If you're playing different styles of music and don't beat the living crap out of your drums, go with the G2. If you play mostly heavier rock/metal type stuff and swing like a caveman, go with the EC2.

I have a Sonor Force 2005 and had to make the same decision (first set of new heads, what to buy). I went with clear EC2s, a HDDry for snare and EMAD for bd. I found the EMAD to be astonishing, the HDDry to be nice but very dry (which I like, but might not be everyone's cup of tea) and the EC2s took some time to sound good to my ears, but now I love them. I can't tell if coated G2s would be better, but I can tell you that I don't think EC2s are too dead. Then again I play mostly funk/rock and some harder stuff.

The G2's and the EC2's are the same thickness, how can one or the other be more durable than the other?

I have a 3005 and one of the first things I did was change the heads. I put on G2 coated - and they are fantastic. I kept the stock reso heads, except for the snare. I put a Hazy 300 on that and it helped more than I thought it would.

For my 3005 nothing worked better than Remo Clear Emperors over Clear Ambassadors on the toms, Remo Clear Powerstroke 3/Remo Ebony Powerstroke 3 on the bass, and Remo Coated CS on the snare batter over a Remo Diplomat Snare Side.
