Usually, I would buy Zildjian cymbals, but I'm looking for used hi hats on ebay and the good zildjian hi hats are too expensive or not very good. So what type of Sabians are good?

Sabian would actually be costing you just as much.

But to answer your question, every Sabian line AA and above (AAX, HHX, HH, etc.)

Yeah, i agree with smooth jazz. As far as the top 3's prices, they are about the same.

As for hats, personally i use 15" new beats, which are nice. I also like HHX evolutions, very nice chick. nice and bright.

BUT after everyone has left a reply telling you what to buy, in the end its your choice. My advice is to go to your local music store and play them. And dont feel ashamed if u walk out with a pair of B8's. Just as long as you like them best. Personally my 3rd favorite hi-hats are zildjian ZHT rock hats. So go by sound, not price.

I have heard on pair of 13" Sabian Flat hats in the AA line that sound fantastic and I don't say this lightly because I have a pair of 14" Quick Beats (Zildjian) that I hate!

And Bermuda has said in past clinics that he has used some lesser quality cymbals which ended up sounding great in the studio!

First to comment on Zildjians and Sabians being about equal in price. I've found that on ebay it seems that Sabians usually go for at least $10-20 less than Zildjians do. That being said, the best thing would prob be to go down to your local music store and play all the hats you can find to kind of get an idea of the sound and then check for the same model. Expect some slight differences though because no two cymbals will be alike. I also want to echo what was said about cheaper cymbals, just because it's a lesser line or not cast and hand hammered, doesn't mean you can't walk out with a really nice sounding cymbal. I personally have a Sabian B8 18" crash that some guy gave to me for free because it was a B8... but it actually sounds really nice and I use it as a 2nd crash now paired with my AAX 16" Studio Crash.

I have heard good things about the AAXcellorator and HHXcellorator 13 14 and 15 inch hats, all great supposedly. Also, my friend said he played the fast hats, and thought they were alright too.

I am into the Hand Hammered and HHX series and i am using 13" Hand Hammered Fusion Hats. i have been using them for a minute and they are the best hats out there. really nice crip chick for pedal work and they ride really nice for heavier fusion stuff. check them out. A lot of people will be put off by the price of the Hand Hammered cymbals but they are great cymbals and are very usable in every musical situation. let me know what u think

I personally own a pair of B8 hi-hats and they really do sound great. I also have the 18" crash mentioned above by BertTheDrummer and it too is awesome! If you're looking for a very good, rockin' cymbal at a decent price, check in to the B8 line. I'd buy the whole cymbal set again if the prepackaged cymbals were different sizes than what I already have.

But...I will repeat what almost everyone here has said, go test some cymbals out at the local store and go by your ear because none of us here will be playing your kit. You've gotta make sure you get something that you're gonna like and enjoy.

Screw costs, and higher end "types"...I had a pair of 14"Sabian Pro Sonix hats that sounded absolutely great to me, but I traded them in on 14" AA Sizzle hats. The AA's were the right decision for me, very versatile, but I sure do miss the more "one dimensional" sounding PS' hats...very crisp, and well suited for rock music. I daresay that they would fit right in with Heavy Metal, if applied that way. I kick myself for trading them in, as they would have made great "X Hats", as well as that they are a discontinued model....for an entry level drummer, these would make an awesome cymbal set!

As already stated; it all comes down to personal taste. And I guess the sounds that we like, are influenced by some of the favorite music we have been listening to. Another thing that, at least for me, can be confusing when I'm trying to find a cymbal, is the acustics in the music store. Drums and cymbals of high quality can sound like trash when you try them in the store, definately far from the recorded gear you have in the back of your head. Soundclips on Sabians and others web-pages are not always to trust either.
I have a 13" Sabian HHX groove hat that I just love. Had some doubts about it in the beginning, because it sounded so different from what I was used to. Now I think it's a very defined, crisp, musical and articulate hihat. Take a listen at Marcus Baylor here in Drummerworld and see what you think. He is an amazing drummer by the way. I belive he plays the 14" version.
And good luck on your search!

I'll name three model for you that are found occasionally on eBay

Sabian 14" AA Regular Hats
Sabian 14" AAX Stage Hats
Sabian 14" HH Regular or Fusion Hats

Those are IMHO, very good sounding, versatile, inexpensive cymbals.

i really like:

14" Manhattan Hats
14" Groove Hats
Basically any HH or HHX are great.

For sheer versatility, the 14" HH Regular Hats are great. Perhaps a little heavy, but nice all the same. I've owned a pair for well over a year and they fit all sorts of musical performance styles and playing styles.

I use the Sabian AA 14" hi-hats and I think they are versitile. I play slow blues to some swing stuff to classic rock and they sound good for this type of music. In fact I play a set of Sabian AA's.

Good luck in your choice. You may want to go to a store or the Sabian website and actually play or listen to a few hi-hats to see what sounds good to you as that is more important than any subjective comment from 'other drummers".
