Hi,

I was wondering what terms like a '777-9311' mean. I often see a beat represented by some sort of number. I once heard a song and the singer started like: 1 2 1 2 and then the drums played kick snare kick snare... Who can help me?

Thanks!

i would send a private message to some of the really advanced drummers on the site....cuz i really have no clue...not all that great with reading music

but my guess would be that you have each drum assigned to a number

so 777-9311 would be something like floor tom ,floor tom, floor tom(pause) ride, hi hat, bass, bass

but thats sounds retarded so I GUESS IM WRONG

Well, I also tought that first, but here: http://www.hudsonmusic.com/woodshed.html , and then click on the woodshed-lesson, at 04:14 Gregg Bisonette plays that '777-9311' groove, but it's only played with snare, kick and hi-hats... I'll ask some of the pros around here...

"777-9311" is the name of the song that the groove is taken from. at 4:35 in that video gregg says "this groove is from '777-9311' by Morris Day And The Time." its not a drumming system, or a strange technique. its the name of the song.

Ok I guess every time I saw a number it was the same 777-931beat... I had seen it so many times. I'm pretty embarrased now.

That's actually a local number here. Last time I checked, it was disconnected. :)

Yeah, but don't dial that #. Evil, bad things might happen.
