hi, i'm looking to replace my old beginner cymbals with some more professional sounding ones. I play rock and blues and any combination of the two. I was looking at the zildjian Ks, maybe a 17" crash and a 20" ride, but i'm not married to them. I'm also considering the K 14" hats. Can anyone vouch for the quality of these cymbals, specifically towards rock and blues, or does anyone have any other ideas either from zildjian or from other companies. I was also looking at bosphorus. Thanks.

A nice sort of mellow and strong ride (more blues style) would be the K Custom Ride 22" the 20" sounds weird. These aren't crashable though so you would want to get a K med/thin or so crash. I just got my 21" A Sweet Ride and this is a wonderful cymbal too. Certainly at home in a blues situation and probably rock too but its a bit softer sounding. The 22" K ride is spoken well of too but I've never tried one. Another good option that I know of is the K Custom Medium 20". I play on a kit that has one of these and it will work work in just about any style as well--again though not a crashable ride.
As far as Bosphorus goes...the New Orleans series are nice and versatile but a bit on the dry side. The Traditionals sound between the A and K Zildjians and the Antiques are similar to K Customs.
If you can check out those K Crash/Rides too.

I play rock & blues and I swear by the Bosphorus Traditional series. I have the 20" heavy ride, 16" med-thin crash and 14" dark hats (the hasts are stamped 'medium' but they are lighter and also crash is stamped 'medium' but it's lighter too). I want to get a lighter 20" ride too; maybe a med-thin.
The Stanton Moore 22" Wide ride is also really nice. Actually, just check out as much Bos stuff as you can.

100% blues player here...............
i am using a 14" K Custom Dark crash (715 gr), 16" K Custom crash (1060 gr), 17" Bosphorus Traditional thin crash (1133 gr), 21" Bosphorus New Orleans ride (2374 gr) for me this set up is perfect, the N/O ride is dry, trashy with really nice mid range overtones. really nice bell also, not offensive at all. the 14" is dry and a touch on the "fast" side, though i must admit i DO use a 14" Zildjian Custom fast crash and a 14" Zildjian & CIE crash occasionally. depending on my mood more than anything. the 16", i am really starting to like this thing, shank it and it speaks loudly, light tip work, nice shimmering tone, it can be pushed hard without overplaying itself if you know what i mean. nice bell. the 17" is my favorite, trashy when i need it, sharp and fast when i need that. it too has a nice bell, i can ride this also with a nice dry tone, i was contemplating going all bosphorus, but then i tried the K's and they were such a nice contrast/compliment i had to go that way. these are all fairly new ( August/September. new kit, new hardware, new everything HA HA) except the New Orleans i've had it about a year and a half. prior to that i was using a 20" Zildjian Custom Ping, it was a bit too bright and harsh for quieter passages to ride.

one last thing i forgot to mention my "hats", i am using 14" Zildjian A Custom Mastersounds, really nice, bright i especially like the "chink" when i close them, these are the only things that survived my "purge" HA HA

i would say k hi hats are as good as they can get. i love them. very versatile too, so probably u can use them in different situations.
22 k custom medium ride is another good option. but if u play heavy rock, then i wont recommend it. it is very good for blues and ballads.
A zildjian 16" crash i think is a good choice in crashes for rock as well as blues. they have that vintage sound.
