Not wanting to be left out in the cold on the high end cymbal market, DW announced their new DW Earthtone cymbals. They are made of wood....really.
What they have done is taken hard woods, kilm dried them to remove all moisture, and cut and shaped the wood into cymbals. "The sound is very stunning" says DW RD guru Davis Murphy. Murphy states that "..by cutting the wood to different thickness, many levels of attack, sustain, volume and brightness can be achieved." When asked "Why?" (they went into cymbal production) Murphy stated, "It has always been the mission of DW Drums to be on the cutting edge of drum production, and this was the next logical extention of that philosophy and taking advantage of our name."
Murphy also stated that DW is redesigning their lugs getting away from the old camco design. "We are looking for something a little bigger." Murpy said. "Maybe the size of a pug."
