I am thinking about buying this Gretsch Catalina Birch kit. Anyone out there have this kit? Any pros and cons would be helpful?
TIA

I owned one in the sunbirst finish, I now own the Gretsch Catalina jazz kit. I prefer the jazz kit, for some reason it just sounds so much better than the birch kit did. If you don't mind a smaller kick that sounds huge and one less tom, you might like this kit, I play rock and it works for me. Just food for thought.

I just recently played one at my local music shop and I was very impressed with it's sound. Great sounding kit and definitely a drum set to consider.

Yeah , I play a four pices Yamaha(fusion sizes)...I wanted a kit with standard sizes for a little more projection. I read that Gretsch is discontinuing this line, GC has it for $575 with a free tom..

I have this in cherry red, Ec2's on the top and and g1's on the bottom, with a 3x13 gretsch steel piccolo.
I picked mine up mint condition second hand, but the price at Guitar Centre looks very good.
The sound from the stock g1's is a bit bright and open, especially with the large attack of the birch.
But i highly recommend it.. for some mediocre recordings of it (in a very subdued setting, with a fair amount of muffling and poor mics)

I would take that as the actual sound you get out of the kit, because iw anted a very different, less attack-like tone out of it...
I can record another set of it with everything open and resonant if you would like.

Well....Looks like GC wasn't going to get any more of this line...So GC being very generous gave me a Gretsch Catalina Maple Fusion kit in its place. Got the same price and deal..WOW....These should be shipping today so I will hopefully have them for a show next friday. Anyone have this line?

nice deal man, I may consider trying the same thing now! last time GC cut me $200 off a TD-6KXT b/c they didn't have any KX's in stock. Catalina Maples are very nice kits, not quite as fancy as the pro line maple kits, but very good nonetheless, and for $575 you will never beat it.

$575 is a great price and I really like the maple Gretch's. I've never owned a set, every time i've played them i've been impressed. They should do you well.
