View Full Version : Great Heads!!
Evans Ec2 Coated,
I havent used coated heads in such a long time, i forgot how warm they sound. I got 10 12 14 16 and a 14 reverse dot snare for 120 bucks. Wow. Try em'

I agree coated heads can be nice on some drums. I wouldn't try them on mahogony (very muddy) but on birch they take the very highs out and warm the tone up. One thing I'm not too keen of on coatings is that the stick attack is very sharp.
There's something in a 2 ply head WITH muffle ring AND coating which tells me "overkill". I'd rather take a thicker resonant or moongel than an over the top muffled batter with no stick response whatsoever. Coated heads imo should always be single ply (with or without a ring).
Thats what i thought, thats untill i tried them.
Check it out, lookin good!

To each his own, but I'm not attracted to that milky silky coating.

I've always like coated heads on small jazz like kits and clear on big Bonham type kits.
