I'm just looking for a little feedback, and maybe a little help choosing sizes.
I'm ordering a Bubinga Starclassic kit in a few weeks, and here's what I'm thinking:
24 by 14 Kick
13 by 9 Tom
15 by 14 Floor
16 by 14 Floor
what do you think of the sizes? I'm not sure about the depths of the tom and floors (Would it be too hard to decipher between the 15 and 16 floors if I was playing a roll or fill).
I like the sound of small depths on shells, and this kit would primarily be for Rock/Alternative kind of music, but should be (at least somewhat) compatable with all styles.

Definately go the 14 inch tom, the 15 and 16 will sound too similar otherwise.
Nice choice for drums, definately looking forward to some pics!

what about 15 by 12 and 16 by 14? because i love the 13 rack and 15 floor idea :)
but i don't want to get into 17 inch floors. that's too big.

I have a 15x12 rack tom that I have used as a suspended floor next to a 16x16. Sounded killer. I would opt for a 15x12 or a 14x14 (if you want your floor toms the same depth).

I'd recommend a 14X12 to give yourself more flexibility.

I've always liked the idea of having a 12" rack and 15" and 18" floors. Nice even spacing between toms yet a big variance between rack and last floor.

Have you played bubinga drums? They have a very deep sound. A 14" will sound like a 16" I'm not sure if you will be happy with those sizes. To each his own. Try them out if you can. You will love the sound. I wouldn't trade mine for anything. Good luck.

i have heard bubingas. i heard a kit that was 10 by 9 and 12 by 10 racks and 14 by 12 floor. I loved the floor! It was amazing.
so maybe a 14 by 12 and a 16 by 14 would be a good match. i appreciate the help!

The best part: if somebody starts poking at your kit without asking first, you get to yell "hey! Hands off my bubes!"

here is my new plan:
24 by 14 kick
13 by 9 rack
15 by 13 floor
16 by 14 floor
what do you all think?

How does a 14x24 or 14x22 kick sound?
If it was an Ayotte wood-hoop maple kit, complete with 5.5x14 Keplinger II wood-hoop and 7x14 maple wood-hoop snares and a nice set of Bosphorus Traditional cymbals, I'd probably sell parents, sisters and my best mate to have it....
Well, before the hyperbole police come, I wouldn't go that far. But I would probably even vote Greens to have a night with that kit...
And yes, I'm salivating right now. I need a towel...

I've got a 24" kit and been considering a 26" kit so how about 26" x 16" kick I'd like the Family referance too funny.

I was reading through the thread when I read this. I found that hilarious!
Hanman, you did a great choice by going with the Bubingas, they are awesome sounding kits (Duh! As if you didn't know!)

I'm a 61 yr old semi-pro. I've owned many wonderful kits. My 37 yr old son is in the band 20 Reasons Taken (20reasons.com).
He's going out on tour - I'm so proud of him that I called him last week and gave him my Ultraviolet Bubinga kit! He kept raving about it every time he came to visit my studio - it blew his mind! He'll be playing it out this weekend for the first time.
The sizes were: 8x10, 9x12, 14x16, and 18x22. I miss it so much (I have 4 other high-end kits) that I'm looking for another one! I loved those sizes - the 18x22 bass drum is a monster! I would recommend it over a 24 as it already sounds so huge. Thus see no advantage or need for a 24. I would go with the 10, 12, 12x14, 14x16, 18x22 combo. I do not see how any bass drum on earth could sound better than the one I had (my Bubinga kit beat out the Pearl Reference, Sonor Dellite and any of the other 20+ kits that have graced my studio space. If you know of a used one for sale - please let me know! Thanks! Drumbe
