Here is the work out:

In the second exercise of the 1st week (Page 3), it says to do 32nds of 80 bpm. My right foot can do that just fine but my left foot is a little bit sketchy on that. My left can do 16ths fine but when I try to pick up the speed to 32nds of 80 bpm it automatically speeds up way faster than I want it to.
Should I keep trying to slowly speed up to 32nds or what? It's extremely hard to control my left foot to go that particular speed. It can go way faster but I can't control how fast.

George has a great workout BUT it is NOT for the faint of heart it is designed to help EXTREME drummers reach their goals....
if you cant do it at 80 slow down till you can do it clean.

Isn't the whole workout basically just practicing? I guess the actual patterns must help in some way, but it's just like the more you practice, the faster you get better. Maybe I'm missing something here, and no I'm not trying to make fun of the program or anyone who does it, just asking some questions.

Never mind, I got it down now.

Are you seriously only supposed to do it 5-2 minutes a day?
seems a bit short to someone doing Mangini's learning approach...
As Tim said this exersize is not for the faint of heart,
at 32nd notes at 100bpm for 2-5 minutes in addition to your standard practice im sure it is plenty enough time to work on this exersise. with your feet moving that fast you probably would want to die after a minute haha.

Basically, the goal here is to play very slowly so you can achieve a sense of control when going at these blistering speeds. Doing 5-10 minutes is cumpulsory for the beginner. After doing this epigrammatic exercise over a long period of time, you may attempt to stretch your routine when practicing these fundamentals, but be vigilant and avoid any feeling of pain.
BTW, you should consider buying Tim's DVD if you're willing to accomplish these goals.

32nd's at 100-120 bpm aren't that hard considering you're only playing them for a quarter of a bar...
I just find it a very short time to be practising.

Manginis is a fair amount of work seeing as the payoff is well worth it
1.5 hours non stop 4-5 nights a week for 5 weeks 100-120bpm

Yeah the way I'm doing it is 7 nights a week at 1 hour for 4 weeks and 2 days. Averages out as about 30 hours. And at 100 bpm 16th notes that comes out at about 720,000 single strokes...

with the Mangini work out, how good are the gains, i did it today, and it was pretty boring, but if the results are good ill stick it out, am in the studio 5 weeks from now, and due to ankle injury my left foot (which was never that good) has lost any control it had. so basically is Manginis worth doing? and what are the returns likley to be like after 5 weeks?
cheers

Well speed it up a little,
i did it and yes it is boring but i does work. But it makes you subconciously find the "sweet spot" on your pedal and your legs will isolate the muscles used. Totally relax the whole time and sit erect and well balanced.
It pays off

Harrowing, I'd totally recommend it. I mean, it may seem to take ages but it's worth it in the long term totally. You'll be kicking like the hulk.
And speeding it up is a bad idea.

cheers boys, appreciate Tutin and DWs advice, will keep on doing it. i love the simplicity of it too.

I found my "Easy" tempo is 150. So I did it at 150. If it is boring than change it up a little.

Wait a minute, you find it easy to play 32nd's at 300 bpm?
That's a bit insane...
p.s. Don't mention it harrowing, any time.

the kollias workout is hard. The way i do it is to take your mind off it and integrate it into drumming or watch t.v. whilst doing the foot work-out. I got half way through it and gave up because my left ankle kept giving out, but I found dramatic results even kicking off the regime after only the first few weeks so KEEP AT IT! If your finding it difficult with the speed then slow that baby down and get it so that all the hits are clean and decisive. Non- of this crappy slapping nonsense. Im sure u'r left will catch up soon and you'll be playing hate eternal songs in your sleep :)
