Well it really depends on the music you wanna make. Usually a pair of 14" hats are a good size, for just about anything. I myself like the sound of Paiste, they have a very distinct, powerful sound and I believe Paiste Alpha's are pretty affordable. If not, you should check on ebay.

paiste alphas are APSOLUTELY horrid.
i have a pair of 15 inch new beat hi-hats that i like alot, and a pair of 13 inch B8's which arent bad.
i would go for the 14 inch new beats on ebay if i were you. 80-150 bucks could get you them.

Whatever hats you're going to buy, I suggest you look at secondhand hi-end hats instead of cheap beginner's. You might find incredible deals on ebay with a little patience. Thats how I got my HHX Stage hats for 160 euros delivered!

Well I play mainly hard rock stuff (think Papa Roach and Nickelback) and i would prefer 14" but im not opposed to 13". eBay seems kool but my folks wanna get me some for b'day and well eBay isn't really an option. So what brands and makes would you suggest? im currently running Sabians on my other cymbals 16" and 18" Crashes and 20" ride and I like these very much and wouldnt mind keeping with Sabian although again im not opposed to other...

I would go with Zildjian 14 inch K's. Those and Quickbeats are my 2 favorite hats out their. I just think the 14 K's are a little more versitile. They have a nice full rich sound. Great for most music.
