i first heard abe play with seal on tv around 1994. i just came back to my dorm after partaking in some happy smoke... i turned on SNL and there he was. i remember being very impressed with the way he played those original boring electronic beats. he's a very original drummer who's not flashy at all. he's been one of my faves for a long time...

and if anyone has that snl video let me know lol.

Last night I caught the last 10 minutes of "BBC Crown Jewels" on VH1 Classic; it was a concert of Sting from Top Of The Pops 2, and I almost fell off the chair when I saw Abe behind the drums. I've liked this guy since I saw him live with McCartney on his 'Driving Rain' tour. This guy is a monster!

Thanks for the vid Bernhard!

Anybody who can effectively cover Stewart Copeland's parts is good in my book. :-)

Also, I like how the videos aren't just on Sting the whole time. Abe gets his share of camera shots.

I gotta say it...what's with that ugly bass Sting's been playing on? Is there something sentimental about an unfinished, half sanded guitar? I mean, the guy's probably got 30+ basses, and 10 cars, can't he get this one fixed in time for the next show?

The tune is actually 'Next to You'.

Great vid, but I miss Vinnie and/or Manu Katche with Sting too.

Man, I totally disagree. Thats probably 20 years of scratches from a leather coat, palm rubbing, touring etc. That is beauty to me! Everyone can own a brand-spanking new shiney instrument - its a reflection of his lifetime of hard work. His bass is proof that he's concerned more with comfort and sound than image, thats respectable in my book. I'll bet he's been "fixing" it for more years than many members here have been alive.
