Hi, I'm going to be purchasing a new set soon, which would be an upgrade from ym TAMA Swingstar, I'm looking at Gretsch, PDP and Yamaha sets right now, I was wondering if there are any other sets people would recommend under $3000 or if one of those is my best bet, thanks.

Your kidding right.....dude any kit in that price range will do just fine...

Your asking a question that's like asking.."who likes apples and who likes grapes"

Why don't you narrow the search down a bit, then we could give you some much better advice...or really opinions..

Because frankly at that price point...there are no BAD kits....you will get a bunch of people saying Yamaha is better....Sonor is better.....Tama is better.....because we own them or have owned them...hope you get my point

Bottom line buy what you like....forget what we have to say....it's your $$$$

You could probably find a used custom kit for 3000 bucks. Maybe even a new four-peice DW.

In that price range I'd say look at Yamaha, DW, Gretsch, Pearl, Tama, basically all the big companies will have plenty to offer you and you won't be able to go wrong with any of them. Here's the fun part hit all the music stores you can and try as many as possible to see which one picks you.

Yeah, any drums in that price range should be good quality. Just shop around for prefence when you cave that kind of cash to throw around. Definitely look at custom drums. You can get amazing drums with a stellar finish.

Try the kits before buying them..my advice: look at the maple tama performer. Also the pearl masters kits are very nice, but you should wait before buying from them..they are remaking almost every single line of drums.

Dunno what prices are like in the US of A, but I heard a Yamaha Maple Custom Nouveau next to a DW and the Yamaha absolutely blew the DW away. It sounds SO awesome that I think my next kit will be a Yamaha.

I've seen a used Pearl Reference kit and a few used DW kits under $3K, at the local Guitar Center. For that kinda cash, have fun and go shopping.

Easy... find a reputable custom drum guy and have them assemble a kit for you. Get yourself a REAL snare.. a nice stave built one or something. If you're dropping that cash why bother buying something that everyone else has?
