Pinstripe Age

Hi everyone, newbie here, question, how long will the 2ply pinstripe heads last before they need to be replaced. I've had mine on a set of rockstar pros for about 17years now and i'm
having a hard time getting the sound i want out of them.Thinking of going to aquarian permormance 2's on the toms.what do you think.

Well one of the first signs is difficulty in tuning and holding tuning. 17 years. Yea... Replace em. I replace heads at any sign of damage (dings) or about every 6 months max. Im a Pinstripe player on Toms. And CS user on snares. You will also want to replace those reso heads if they are as old as the beater heads.

If you put a set of heads on a drum and never play it, the heads should last forever. If you play every day, 6 months to a year, tops, on tom heads. Kick and snare heads tend to get more use and therefore need to be replaced more often. 17 years on your Pins, probably time for some new heads. And welcome to Drummerworld.

I'm not sure, I've had them last a good while because of their great durability. But 17 years!? It's time for a change bud.

iv got pinstripes on my toms reso and batter, the resos are around 8 years old hand me downs and they sound great.

Once you get good resos they will last you about a lifetime, it's not like you beat on them. But batter heads wont last 17 years (well, depending on how much you play).

I would too have a hard time tuning 17 year old heads. You should probably get new ones.

your wrong about the reso's. the heads rae constantly being streched, and they will loosen. then you will have to tighten. then they will loosen again. and tehn after a long cycle of loosening and tightening the heads loose their fresh sound and dont get the solid resonantnessness of new heads........ that sounds stupid. but its true

As a point of reference, i change mine every 6-8 months and i think i let mine go too long. I think its definatly time for a replacement.

P.S. those must be some durable heads. those bastards havn't broken yet?

17 years is a long time, I'd say you've gotten your money's worth out of them. I've seen quite a few guys say they replace them every 6-8 months and I agree with that if you are playing every day and gigging out. HOWEVER if you play a few times a week and don't play out much you should be able to get by quite a bit longer than 6-8 months before they need replacing again.

There's nothing like the feel of new heads, you'll be surprised at the difference in sound with the new ones just because the old ones are worn and lose their tone.

After seeing some of Nick's video's of himself playing, I can probably understand that as he (seems) to hit pretty hard with big exaggerated movements. Also he's playing at a higher level than most of us so sound is a little more of an issue.He's got himself a tour coming up if I remember correctly (good luck for, by the way)
