I'd go with clear ambassadors or G1's or coated versions of those on the toms and on the bass it depends on how open or focused you want it to be, more open go ambassador or G1 little more focused look at the Evans EQ series or emad reso.

There is a wonderful chart or listing in the Drummers BIble with suggestions for top and bottom or batter and reso heads for particular sounds. It doesnt list all by name but it does list by single ply double ply, etc.

If people want less sustain, why don't they take thicker resos instead of putting mega-muffled versions on top and complaining the stick attack is dead? Just wondering why resos don't get the same attention as batters. It's half the sound produced.

Well, according to physics the heavier head will have a longer sustain. A lighter head like a diplomat will have shorter sustain, but also start vibrating faster then it's heavier counterpart (say an emperor).
So if you want a warm sound with quicker sustain, it makes sense to use a thin coated head i.e. a coated diplomat as opposed to a clear emperor, etc.

I prefer the Coated Ambassadors with the Coated Emperors, I feel they compliment each other very well.

I use this combo with my Tama Granstars. These drum seem to favor the Emperor/ambassador heads quite well. I don't understand why they came with Pinstripes as they didn't do these drums justice!
