man come on thats a bit harsh....i have to admit ive never cracked a cymbal yet either....but still?!

theres constructive criticsm...then theres just being superior?i mean yeah ok...technique etc.....but the question was merely what should he do with them...not what should he do to stop cracking them??

judgin by what he said he didnt care for the cymbals a great deal and actually took it upon himself to destroy them??if not i agree the technique does lpay a huge part in this an that should be rechecked...

as i said...just wear them as futuristic hats....

Technique only goes so far with preserving cymbals. You can use certain hitting techniques to avoid breaking them, but in the end, if you're playing loud music (show me a style of mainstream music today where you don't have to play hard), you have to hit hard and you'll probably break a few crashes along the way if they aren't thick as bricks.

You can check for a warranty, but I doubt zbt's have any. You could try the ebay thing, or you could just toss it out the window. Not much you can do with a broken cymbal, especially a broken zbt.

Hey, you should have said that a friend gave you those broken cymbals. This way you wouldn't have to hear those technique remarks. On the other hand they might as well say: "tell your friend that his technique... blablabla...".

Seriously, though, you can cut them down to make smaller cymbals, or you can try to learn hand hammering and practice it on them, or both.

get the cymbal cut shorter and see if it sounds any good. if not, ebay it. that's what i did with a ZXT trashformer i cracked, the guy i sold it to was all like 'jackpot!' but that's cause he paid like $15AU plus postage for it.

A thin cymbal is supposed to be played softly. A strong hit can crack it whereas a thick cymbal will resist. On the other hand when you play thin cymbals lightly (as you're supposed to), they resist pretty well. So it depends on how you use it.

what i do, it depends on the cymbals and how it brakes. but if the center hasn't been cracked i cut out the bell of the cymbal and make a little effects ice bell. some cymbals make great ice bells ... some do not.

I don't know if it's necessarily true that they last longer, but thinner cymbals do flex more. I've played sabian vault crashes which are very thin (yet surprisingly powerful, with wonderful warmth and fullness) for probably a year and a half now, and have only cracked two 19" crashes. But this is on tour, playing loud rock n roll almost every night, where many songs I "ride" the crash (or play lead with it, whatever you wanna call it). They took a beating extremely well. So i don't know, maybe it is true, maybe it isn't.

If you didnt allready throw them away use the v method. I have zbt rock i got a 20" rock ride 14" rock hats 16" & 18" rock crashes. I love there sound its incredible for $200. Both of my crashes are cracked they probably crack once every week. Its a pain filling them down.
