Hey.

I am about to purchase a Tama Starclassic Bubinga 4-piece:

18x22 Bass Drum
14x16 Floor Tom
9x12 Mounted Tom
8X10 Mounted Tom

I love the sound and pretty much everything the kit stands for. So many pros play the Starclassic Maple, I'm wondering if it's even worth going with the Bubinga cuz its so much more expensive. The set in question was used as a floor model for a while and has some scratches on the finish. Everything else seems to be in great condition. They're asking $2300.

I hesitate...would $2000 (or another price) be a more reasonable/rational purchase? IF YOU HAVE ANY WISDOM ABOUT THIS KIT OR WHAT IS A GOOD PRICE, PLEASE TELL ME! Below is a picture of the set (not the actual set) and the finish I'm looking at. Thanks for any help ya'll can give me.

Lowball them, with cash/credit card in hand. You might get 'em for $2k. I am so bonerfied by that finish. Absurdly awesome.

i agree, that's a great finish, and unique. sorry, dont have much insight on the pricing, but i'd say it's worth it if you like the sound better than the maple. but hey, you say it sounds great so go for it

I heard Rodney Holmes play the purple bubinga at Pasic this year....someone in the crowd ask if he would turn the mics off to truly hear the sound of the kit....he did...and the sound was simply amazing...definetly a great kit

How bad are the scratches???...It would be a shame if they detracted from the kit...I'm not up on pricing with Tama so I can't comment on that...check massmusic.net

i love the starclassics -- all of them -- but the bubinga is truly special. I love that purple (no surprise there) -- they have one at my local guitar center. They have pins on it and it is not tuned well at all, but regardless it still sounds great.

go for it!

$2300,- doesn´t sound bad to my ears at all. But of course, with cash in hand you can allways try to get the price lower, I would.

I have the Starclassic performer birch/bubinga and another all bubinga kit on order. I´m paying A LOT more than $2300,- (in fact, street price is around $4000,- for a 22/10/12/16 configuration around where I live) so I say go for it, even if you can´t have it cheaper.

(And if you don´t like it, I´ll take it of your hands;-})

$2300 is a great deal!!!!
My local GC has a kit in purple sparkle (UVS?) same sizes as you mentioned for $2850 as I recall. I thought this was a good deal.
Great drums, great price, now go buy em!

That's a good deal on a bubinga Starclassic. A new six piece is about 3700.
Snatch it up!
