Hey everyone, this is my 10yr old performing for the first time in front of an audience. This was his school talent show a couple of weeks ago and he was very nervous (about 200-250 people attended). I think from the response at the end, the next time will be alot easier for him.

Logically he is excited...but overall it looks good!! He already has some cool chops and the good sense for the drums. He should seriously keep it up, he has potential! I wish him all the best!

Thanks Karl! I'll pass the kind words along to him when I get home.

Sweet! I hadn't even picked up a pair of sticks at that age; it's great that he has come so far already.
You're a justifiably proud dad!

Yeh! He'll be 11 on April 21st. He's had an interest in drums for a couple of years (that's what got me back into them), but he only gets to practice every other weekend for a couple of hours. Hopefully soon we'll get a full time practice spot.

really liked it. He is seriously good. The double pedal stuff was cool, with that kinda feel and speed at 10, just think where he'll be at my age (17)
cheers.

Thanks Wes!
It's very nice of all of you to take the time to check him out, and thanks to all who have replied (he really enjoys reading what everyone has to say).

Awesome performance! The screams from opposite sex aren't all bad either. Being a father of two girls I'd say he's quite a hit with the young ladies.

Thanks!!!! He does seem to be getting some attention, but unless they're wwe wrestling divas he's not too interested in them right now.... thank God!

he needs to lay offa blast beats, learn some dynamics in sounds, and get some groove. but for 10 hes not bad.

Thanks "tamadrummer". Constructive criticism is always welcome and appreciated on one of my threads.

Nice video. Of course, there's plenty of stuff to criticise about, plenty of errors but come on, the guy is 10 years old. He's way better than I was at age 10 (which is when I got started). He has a lot of talent, keep it up.
...And that's a very good sounding chinese cymbal!

Thanks! The china is actually an 18" Alpha (swiss made). It's my only non-signature, but I think it compliments the signatures rather well.

Just a little advice. There needs to be a path of direction, it has to flow. Speed and rolls etc is not a sign of good drumming. A drummer who understands and utilizes dynamics and can show a begining to an end with a clear path are musicians. Just because a drummer can do speed bass drum rolls doesn't signify a good drummer.Technique is key.
With that said he has the base he just needs to expand and study the dynamics and provide direction. So encourage him to continue and have him work with someone who can provide the technique. Please don't take this negative.

I think what's really great about his drumming is that there's room for critical analysis from competent drummers. In that, if he really sucked, everyone would say stuff like “that was nice”, “he’s great”, blabla, to try not to offend, and move on. Where you’re actually seeing some well articulated criticism, and suggestions for what he can do to get better. He should be very proud of something else he’s got that not many kids much older then he has. And that is stage presence, he showed no fear. Even when the sticks got jumbled up, he recovered, continued, and just like an Olympic skate, bounced back off the ice and finished with a smile. Good show!
I agree with the sentiment. He should try to take a more melodic structured approach with future performances. He’s got some skills, there’s no question, but he doesn’t have to show us all of them in those 2 minutes. Hold back, make it grove, and most of all make it an enjoyable experience for the audience.

I don't take anything negative Kevinm, it's just my screen name. Thanks for the reply.

yes, i agree. for ten years old...he's definately on his way. he'll learn all the good stuff: dynamics, direction, groove, and whatnot. he'll be smoking drummers by the time he's 15! good job.

I agree with karl on this as well. If his passion is strong and he gets inspired by the right teacher. You never know...
