Anyone understand the point of the new K 24" Light Ride. The enormous size makes it seem like a hard rock ride but being thin with a smaller bell I'm not sure how that works. Zildjian claims it works in a jazz setting but I can't imagine a 24" not being a big loud rumble all the time. The 14" light hats seem like a good idea though.

There are a lot of jazzers that use 24" cymbals. I know a few who use 24" AGOP Rides (TW's and Sig's) and a couple who have used 24" K Constantinoples. It really depends on the weight, as well as, the bell on how much it will rumble, and of course, the person playing it.

Hmm 24 inch LIGHT ride. I think that would lighten the sound a bit. And since you mentioned the smaller bell, well that also probaly contributes. So in the end you have a big ride with big but not overpowering sound. My guess would be that this 24 inch is probably versatile.
But these are all guesses on my part.

i tried one at the NAMM. i was very disapointed and excited. i thought it'd be a beautiful sound, with a nice heavy sound. i forgot the light part. it was very trashy and wobly. the ride was extremly quiet. the crash was extremly loud. the hammering is very weird. it would sound nice as a jazz ride, as a rock ride. i do not recomend. but very nice.

This ride has 3 things going for it. Its a K Ride. Its advertised as versitle. Alot of big name dummers are using it.
I will pass judgment when I've heard it in person but until then ill give the benefit of the doubt. It seems like it makes up for its thin sound with a big diameter. Sounds good on paper...

Well the only guys that use it so far are the guys who play loud rock and use it for a big crash. Isn't it strange they would make something like this...
BTW: where would you put it...its large.

Good for you. He didn't 'diss' you.
I had the chance to try out this ride at a little music store in Moscow (Idaho, not Russia ;) ). I admit, I was skeptical, expecting something really big, boomy, deep. I was however pleasantly suprised. It was actually quite light and responsive; a little trashy, but not overpoweringly so. My guess is that it would blend very well in a smaller jazz setting.
So try not to dismiss this ride quite yet!

I've only seen 22" cymbal bags...
I don't even think a 24" ride would fit in my car, my 22" bass drum barely does.

I have a 24" cymbal bag. It was made for Istanbul AGOP by beato. Nice, nice bag with dividers in the main part, plus dividers in the front hi-hat pouch. If you need one, Peter has them at thecymbalshop.com.
