I decided that my Turk Thin China just isn't for me. I really like it, I just don't use it often, so I've just ordered a set of 12" Bosphorus Turk Reg/Dark Hi-hats from CymbalsOnly.com to use in a closed fashion to replace it.

I was just wondering how many here use hi-hats 12" and smaller on their sets.

I used 12" A Custom Mastersounds for years in metal and rock bands. They were super crisp and tight. They were also surprisingly loud. I really loved them for a long time and will probably go back to them in any loud situation. Granted there wasn't a lot of meat to the tone, but they were still great hats.

I think John Blackwell uses a pair of AA 12" hats...

I wish I could find those 12" New Beats my high scholl used to have! They were special ordered and are probably collecting dust in some old storage building somewhere.

Often Billy Ward uses smaller Hi-Hats, I think he even uses 10"!
Overall it depends also on the particular model you wanna play. I checked you 12" Turk out at cymbalsonly and I am impressed by its sound! Very thinny, light and high pitched.

Must please you buddy! =)

But what do you wanna do with your china?

I play with 13 inch A Customs and I'm surprised at how loud they are. True, smaller hats lack strength of sound but their tone can really cut. I also like the responsiveness you get from smaller hats.

Well I'm using them closed only, so the thinner sound when opened won't be an issue.

What did I do with it? That's a secret.. :)

Oh yes, didn`t you build this Hi-Hat stand from the cymbal stand? I did this already, a good alternative...mhh, and why "no issue"? Do you dislike its thin sound?

Anyway a great choice!

No I like it, but if it was something that I didn't care for after a while in a hi-hat that would be opened, I wouldn't care.
