I know theres already a thread on here about this. But, I've never been dissapointed with ddrum, and want to get more of a metal kit, so i picked that one. One thing, is it true that the Punx kit uses plastic lugs?

That might be one of those things you'd want to know BEFORE you buy a kit ;)

Sorry I read your post as you had already purchased it.
I seriously doubt they're plastic.. The specs I see say "low mass" which just means the more modern lug that helps the drum resonate better.

I didn't see anything about plastic lugs on the website but would that put you off? SOME Yamaha kits can have plastic lugs and some other makers too. They work well and are still strong and durable

I've seen and heard the Ddrum Dominion and Diode drums, and they slam. Someone on this forum bought the Diatribe, and I'm pretty sure they were very happy with the kit. The Diablo line, on the other hand. Look at the price. $499/$699 for double kicks. It's a world of "you get what you pay for" and if you're not shopping for a deal, one usually will not just land in your lap. Plastic lugs in and of themselves are not a bad thing. The Philippean Mohagany the shells are made of would be of greater concern. I'd take whatever money you have and look for a higher grade "gently used" kit. And if you wanna look more metal, wear black combat boots and a Slayer T-shirt.

honestly, i would go for the pearl ex double-kick kit before i'd go with the ddrum one (and that's not saying much). their upper level kits are sick, but yeah.. phillipine mahogany isn't the best wood, so if this is an 'upgrade' kit for you, i'd think twice.
and if you're playing metal, you can play on ANY kit. yeah, the look of double bass is nice, but you can play metal on a four piece if you're creative enough.

The white Ludwig kit for $400 in this thread is a way better deal. http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24688 shop around for a second bass drum to match, if you just gotta have 2 kicks. Heavy metal.

Thanks guys, although i do understand that you don't need a set like this to play metal, i'm not just looking for a good playing, which is my number one standard, i'm also looking for something that has an aesthetic value to it as well. once again, thnaks.

I'm waiting on a new Diatribe kit. I highly recommend them. They are great. MF is running a great deal on a Dominion Maple kit right now for like $800!!
