I have a set of the new ones and they are noticeably different than older models I have played on before. The older ones were thinner and lighter in weight so they had a different sound. Both kinds are still very versatile.

I got a pair of 14" new beats from 1985 and I love them I will probably keep them forever i've played classic rock, metal, country & jazz with them and they have never let me down I'm sorry but I have not played any recent new-beats but I'm sure they sound good as well.
Good Luck,

I used to play a pair of New Beats back in Jazz band in middle school. To my knowledge they were the "outline" logo series (the logo wasn't filled in, just an outline. They still are some of the best hi-hats I've ever played. However the newer new beats, and I've had a few pairs over the years, aren't the same to me. I don't know what it is, but the new NB's just sound heavier and aren't as crisp as the older models.

I think your english isnt that bad. Anyway...
Ive seen posts around here also favoring New Beats from the 70's over new New beats.
I think they are made a little heavier now and more from a machine and that may contibute to the sound.
Though, all in all new beats are still great hi-hats.

Welcome to Drummerworld. You are the first Chinese member I've noticed. And for the record, there are people in America with worse English than you so don t beat your self up.
And it is true. They are produced differently like everyone says. While series names are a good indicator of what you are getting, it is best to try cymbals in person because each has its own character. The newbeats of today may be the quickbeats of tommorow.

I haven't played the old ones, but the new ones are odd to play. if you press between solid closed(pushing as hard as u can) and between just harder than a rattle is sounds weird. but thats what i think, they are still very versitile

The sound comes from the hand, or as we Finns say it, mutsis oli tylsä kun sua teki. If you play the hihat in a repetitive fashion, how can you expect the sound to vary? By utilising a proper touch, almost any cymbal can be used effectively in almost any context.
