I know both of these kits are good, and it probably just comes down to taste, but i was just wondering does anybody feel one kit is hugly or marginally better then the other?

I'm a fan of Mapex, so i'd go with the Mapex. I'm not a fan of Sonor's kits under the SQ2 and delite series.

The Sonor Force series kits are built in the same facility that the Mapex drums are built in, but to Sonor's specifications. The 3005 series is a very good kit for the money, I've heard great reviews about them. It's true that they are not the same quality as the high end Sonor lines, but then neither are any other drums. The 3005's are good bang for the buck. I can't speak for the Mapex, I've never seen them.

I'm a Mapex man myself, but Sonor is my second choice, so this is a bit of a split decision for me. I'd say the Pro M because it just has a higher end feel to it imo, but neither kit blows the other out

Anyone telling you one of the two is better is simply biased because he owns/has played one of the two. There's no difference between those two sets that wouldn't come down to personal taste. Even if you're not smarter now, the best advice anyone could give you is to check out which one YOU like best.

Soundwise.. I have played both and preferred the Sonor
It is going to be the little things that will decide....10 lug bass and snare...1" tube diameter on Sonor...allowing you to take the tom mount and stick it in the base of a cymbal stand, so you can have the toms off of the kick...without having to buy more hardware....might be nothing to you, but it comes in handy later
These little things are what I look at when buying a kit.....when kits are pretty equal you have to look close at all the surrounding items....what's important and what's not important to you as the buyer.
Plus 3005's are going for $750 new on ebay....that's a steal

You raise some good points- I think Sonor wins the hardware and future tweaking battle, Mapex wins the "out of the box" versatility battle, both are even in the finish and shell department! Best advice here- try them until you can try them no more and decide from their- neither will disappoint you. However, for the $750 on ebay, that does offer an appeal over $1200 for a ProM

well you lucky Americans, im living in Ireland, and the cheapest i can get the sonor for is 1000 euro and that's off a German site, cus shipping and tax from America......well ok lets not even go there, and i can get the mapex for 1040 euro,
with the mapex i can get 2 floor toms 3 racks kick and snare for that price tho which is appealing, but i dont find mapex as physically appealing as the sonor really, sonor is just a standard set, 12 13 16 14, i have played a 3005 kit but not a mapex proM and in cork where im from there is no music shop where i can actually go and set these kits up and play them ....yes i know its unreal haha, im not liking the look of the mounting system for the toms on the mapex either, i know it looks like i have my mind made up........but not really, cus i can get the number of drums i want from mapex, where as i cant with sonor,

I agree with the tom mount....it is really a crappy mount....if you want to lower your toms, it is useless.....It is a major drawback IMO...there is more flexibility with other brands
