I play mainly funk and rock and i was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a fairly priced (about $250-300) ride.

I usually like lighter rides with good stick definition but also crashability.

What does anyone think about most zildjians from about the 70's that are on ebay a lot? I like that 70's zildjian sound but i dont know if ebay is the most reliable source for these cymbals.

thanks.

thanks man,
Those cymbals look great. I love how they have sound samples too.

Anyone have any other opinions on any type of ride for a classic funk setting?

Maybe the HH Vintage ride, has a great bell and crashability, im not sure how defined the body is tho, I've heard that it has a lot of build up.

22 A Custom ...sounds good with Colaiuta playing it. Moderately thin, but still bright enough definition but deeper wash. The 22 K Custom Ride is a nice heavier/darker sounding ride..pretty popular too. Great bell on both of these.

thanks for the suggestions,

check this ride out. Does anyone have any reasons not to go for it. I like the sound and the price and it looks like its in pretty good condition.

Okay,

You are getting some great suggestions here. Here are a couple of suggestions of my own:
I can atest to the HH Vintage Ride! There is one at a local store that sounds absolutely incredible.
You may want to think about the Zildjian Deep Ride. Try one out to be certain!
An old standby is the 20" Medium Ride. I used to think that these were over marketed but I have one that is a very versatile ride cymbal! It is great for Jazz (mine has rivets) and can be used for Funk.

"Funk" is a pretty broad word. You can play all sorts of rides in different settings that would all be considered "funk" and you can even make different choices within a setting.

A nice trashy washy ride but with enough seperation so that the time doesn't get lost (a jazz sound as many would think of it) can be great, because it opens up a big wide pocket for the band to ride on, but just as a true, a nice tight pingy ride can groove equally hard by really giving that tight strict time so that everybody knows exactly where each beat is. I prefer something inbetween (20"K Custom Medium) as my primary, and use a very trashy washy ride as my secondary (Thin 22" Istanbul Agop Signature), the very tight ping thing bores me as a player, but I have often enjoyed it as a listener.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
I finally decided on a 70's zildjian medium weight ride from cymbalcellar.com.
It was only $115. What a price when something like a paiste PST or zildjian ZHT costs the same (I couldn't live having one of those as my main ride.)
Again, thanks for the advice.
