Hey everyone. I joined a garage band about 4 months ago because my friend from forever ago called me up and asked if I wanted to be in a band. At the time I was learning guitar but I kinda sucked so I told him but he said he didn't want me playing guitar, he wanted me to play drums. I had never even held a drumstick before that but in the short time I have been in the band, I now have a newfound respect for drummers. I originally thought they were less important members of the group but drums (along with bass) is what makes a band great or not. Guitar and vocals just show if your band is creative and edgy. Well, I suppose im rambling on now. Here is my question, I recently purchased a Tama double bass pedal for use with a couple of heavier songs our band is doing and I just can't really get a good rhythm going. My right always ends up a hair faster than my left. Im so used to my right being on the single mallet pedal and left being on the hi-hat. I like to think im an ok drummer, I don't claim to be a lightning quick, skin-bashing genius. I just need a few tips on how to sound a little better than my skill level. I can keep good rhythm on most of our songs and probably all I need is just more practice but I thought i'd at least get some feedback from other drummers. Any comments are welcome...

Peace

sit down, put a foot on both pedal and work on singles: LRLRLRLRLR. Go slow, very slow and work your way up. It could take a good while.

That's the basis, but don't stop there do patterns: LLRRLLRRLLRRLLRR and do parradiddles RLRRLRLLRLRRLRLL. Work your feet the same way you would work your hands.

Haha no worries, it was your first post! I didn't see it when I started up here. Pasquini gives good advice too.

Yeah, hopefully the first of many better ones, lol. I can't wait for tomorrow to work on my DB speed. My friend (the one who recruited me into the band) is a huge DETHKLOK fan and he let me listen to one of their songs, Duncan Hills Coffee I believe and he said he wants me to be able to play the double-bass part that fast for our song. I kinda stared at him like he was crazy but it would be nice to be able to play that fast. I have a long way to go though...
