Woo! Finally got my new batch of Saludas in. There were a couple modifications, but the sounds were exactly what I wanted...
14" Mist-X rock hats: These bad boys are so heavy! They were supposed to be rippled but Jamie told me the rippling effect wasn't coming out too well lately. They are so bright and chicky and the perfect rock hats.
16" Earthworks full crash in the Mist-X finish (I believe): This crash is very punchy and to the point. High pitched and very bright.
8" Prototype splash. I tapped this splash while having it set on my finger tip and it is so unique sounding... When lightly tapped it has sort of a gongy clang, but as you hit it harder it brings out the splashy highs like a waterfall. The finish looks similar to what the Emperor's looked like on their site, but Jamie said it was something new. I'm not sure what that prototype series will evolve into, but I'm really liking it so far.
20" Mist-X rock ride: By far this is my favorite so far and the perfect ride for me. This new ride is almost like a ping ride... nice wash, very bright, and very crashable. It cuts. It's so beautiful with my new hats.
My cymbals are so bright now that after practicing on them today I nearly lost my hearing. I've never had such bright sounding cymbals. I am so happy... ahhh can't wait to show you pics, especially of this splash!
So now my entire cymbal set up is Saluda. I'm certainly planning on expanding my collection over time. Hopefully my new kit will come in soon and my mind will be at complete peace. ahah!

Im in the middle of another trade, so look forward to seeing two new chinas on my kit and maybe a bell.

They look pretty good, if not entirely to my taste. I'm glad that you took the plunge and that you like them, they look good for sure. Next on the agenda, those new tubs!

They look great man!
SOme advice though- they coat their cymbals in a protective spray or something when they ship em. Polish them up and theyll sparkle even more!

frank -I actually asked Jamie in my latest email what would be best to use for cleaning Saludas. What have you had luck with? My pictures don't quite do justice to the brilliant finish. They are really bright. When I get my new set I want to do some nice pics again, and I'll try to show off the bling bling. hahah
My sacred - As far as I know you can only get them directly from the company (via online or over the phone or walk in to their shop?). I'd say the biggest challenge Saluda faces is buyers who want to hear the cymbal first. Saluda makes the cymbals custom for you, so it takes a little talking to the owner to get what you want. My first purchase with them was a risk I took, but I'm glad I did.
You definitely put some creative control in Saluda's hands. For example, for my splash, I didn't really know what type of splashy sound I wanted. I just said I wanted an 8" Mist-X, and they gave me a new prototype splash instead which I couldn't be happier with. I've never had a splash, but now I want more! Like a 10" and maybe a 6".
This current batch has me completely sold on them. I'm already thinking of new cymbals I want them to make me. haha!

Great looking cymbals. I know they must sound awesome (My Saludas do!!!). I love the 8" splash. I have an 8" Saluda Glory splash that I just love....Actually, I love all my Saludas, all 14 of them....!!!!

This last monday I got in my new Diamond Trash Crash and my Mist Brilliant Splash. The crash ended up coming with 8 1-inch diameter holes that I had not been expecting. I think because I told Jamie that I cracked the last one, he made this one a bit thicker but put the vents in it to make it trashy enough. The Splash I had hoped would be a little thinner or spalshier, but I think it will sweeten up with time as will the crash. My ride certainly has.
Congrats by the way, they look great!

somedrummer - How thick is your new Diamond? I'd like to see some pics. Does it have the same sound as your last one? What type of splash did you get? The one I received is really thin.
I jammed with one of my band mates last night and gave the new cymbals the proper test. I am really happy with them. I really need to get a couple more boom arms so I can mount my Diamond crash again. We're having band practice today so I'll see what my other band mate thinks of them.

Nice Sleepy!! VERY NICE...
I have my 12" trash-splash (vented) coming in tomorrow!! Can't wait!!! :)
On another note....I truly can't beleive it when I see people say that the cymbal that came to them wasn't what they expected, ....etc....anything like that. Folks....you need to stay in contact and understand exactly what's going on before they're shipped....Jamie doens't bite...call him! :)

Thanks. I've already started to ask about new cymbals. hah! I want to get another small cymbal for accents to go with my splash, but a different sound. I'm thinking 10" so I can stack it on my 18" crash. Maybe a mini china. I'm also thinking of trying one of the 6" bells.

Well the new Diamond I got is a bit thicker than the old one I believe. But it actually came vented (8 holes, about 1" diameter each), so that took away a lot of the mass of it and it has a very similar sound to the old one. You can tell that it's a little thicker though.
The splash I'm not entirely happy with, but I'm thinking that it will grow on me and tone down a little with time. It's a 12" Mist Brilliant. It seems a little thick compared to what I had hoped for, but it is what I asked for, a 12" Mist Brilliant. I suppose I should have specified a slightly thinner cymbal. Overall, though, I'm happy.

What does the 12" Mist Brilliant splash sound like? I haven't tried anything from the Brilliant series.
I was looking closely to my prototype splash to see what I could compare it to from their current line up. It almost has a similar finish to the Glory line with its black hammer marks, but there is much more dark areas instead of the reflective Glory surface. The top and bottom are lathed as well. The underside has I think the Diamond finish, but I may be wrong. It's shiny- not dirty like the top. It almost looks like it started as a Glory, but was then modified. It's really thin though, and I think the Glories are thick. I haven't tried a Glory yet. Jamie suggested the heavy dry ride I want come from either the Glory or Black Mist lines if I want it with a darker tone.
These cymbals are plaguing my dreams man! Ahahah... Seriously I'm having dreams at night that I'm playing my kit surrounded by Saludas. hahah That sounds so cheesy. One of my band mates made a comment about the brightness of my cymbals last weekend. He said that when I'm laying into my two main crashes (16" Diamond / 18" Mist-X), it sounds like a jet plane flying over head.
I'm thinking about unloading my Roland kit to put more cash towards more cymbals and other upgrades for my main kit. I need three little cymbal stackers. I want to mount my 8" splash on my main 16" crash. I want to get a 10" mini china to mount on my 18" crash. I want to try a 6" bell on my ride. Then I need a 22" heavy dry ride, and some 13" fast hats which will need a remote pedal. So ya, I have a wish list. hahahahahah The only extra hardware I need is the remote hat (will cost the most), three small cymbal stackers, and a couple multi-clamps for my rack.

Sweet...I know...they are so reasonably priced.....it's an addiction!! :) That's why I'm getting my vented splash,...for something different......it arrives today.....

I've discovered that you don't really want to "order" something...but more or less tell Jamie what sound and application you're looking for and let HIM PICK the series....for instance...I told him I"m looking for something to complement my splash that's different ...like a trashy splash or mini-china...I explained the sound ....and we decided on a vented trash splash.....he'll find a trashy sounding splash, then vent it for the sound I'm looking for......the cymbal itself though could have come from 3 different lines. So,..I didn't say "give me a vented trashy MistX splash" ...I let him match the series to what I was looking for...if that makes sense.....

I completely agree. You may feel helpless putting that control in Jamie's hands, but I'm starting to really trust his judgment. I know that if I really don't like something, I can swap it out or have it modified with no problem. I've mentioned lines in my sound descriptions, but then Jamie will reply with a suggestion of a different line to get that sound I want. The hardest thing then becomes properly describing the sound you want. He knows what colors are in his palette, you just have to tell him what type of picture you want to paint.
cool. i've got some mist-x hats that i really like. and i know what you mean about creative control, i pretty much just described my desired sound and let jamie pick the series for my hi hats as well as the two crashes i hope to be able to purchase soon (16" mist-x and 18" diamond, opposite of you)
anyway, nice cymbals
