im looking for a drumming program where i can take a blank sheet of music and put notes onto that and hear it played back to me. it seems like that would make understanding how to play songs sooo much easier. AND not tabs. actual music. thank you all.

well, if you basically need a software that allows you just to write and playback drumlines you can take a look to any midi sequencer such as cubase (but it's quite complex) or cakewalk.

Obviously, you will hear only a midi drum sound, but I think that's not a problem for you needs

I use a program called Sibelius..

Not sure if that's what you are looking for. I use it for writing out
my drum beats.

Here's how I do it...

I use my Voyetra Record Producer Deluxe, but you just need a piano roll editor that pumps out standard midi files. Put together your beats using your midi piano roll. Save as standard midi, then open then with the free "Midi Note Player" which will transcribe them into sheet music. Unfortunately, the notation is fixed and sometimes not the way I would write them. But, it works well.

If you really want to write out music with complete control, you should take a look at Finale. It will play back what you write out as MIDI. I use it to transcribe my parts. I've never used Sibelius, but I imagine it is very similar.

i tried using paint, but it wouldn't let me do quarter notes for some reason

Yep, Finale is great

I use Tabtrax you can tab the music or write it in the staff, you can also copy and paste tabs and it will convert it to sheetmusic. It also plays back what you write and lets you import mp3 to play along with what you write, which is really cool if you are learning cover tunes. I think the website is 2112design.com, really good for 30 bucks.
