Vintage drums...heads???

I'm restoring an old Ludwig set. I'm pretty happy with the Evans G2's on my two other sets, but thought maybe I should go with something else. I was looking to use white resonant heads, and clear batter heads.

Any suggestions?

Remo Fiberskyn 3 batter, Ambassador weight. Also, as a reso. on your kick, just 'cause it looks so cool.

Exactly how old, I wonder? Because after a certain year, the drums were made smaller than before that year. So if regular heads dont seem to fit right, that would be why. To my knowledge, only Aquarian makes heads that will fit these drums. Called the "American Vintage" Series. I put them on an old Ludwig set and they have a very controlled sound. Very nice.

It all depends on what kind of music you are playing. Some friends of mine that are jazz players who play old Slingerland kits or Gretch kits that they have restored swear by the Remo Fiberskyn heads. Not only are these heads great for jazz but they also look really nice on vintrage kits, it's kind of a final touch so to speak. Personally I like the Remo coated Emperors on the batter side and coated Ambassadors on the resonant side, not only do the look great on vintage kits but they are good all around heads for different styles of music.

I think either the Aquarian vintage or Fiberskyn with thin weights on either one would be a good choice. The medium Modern Vintage and medium Fiberskyns are kinda heavy and take a little life out of the drums. The Modern Vintage heads do have a nice texture to them though, which is an advantage over the fiberskyns.

Thanks for all the tips. I got a deal on 3 Evans G1 coated (almost free!). Maybe use those for the resonant heads??? Couldnt beat the price. I'll check out the ones mentioned for the batter side.

The drums are 67's. Had Weather Masters on it last time they were played.
