im looking for relatively cheap, really high sounding hi hats. i dont want a dark sound from them at all, just a nice light sound. any suggestions?

AA fusion hats would be nice, of a lot of punk drummers use A custom mastersounds personally I'm not crazy about them the open sound isn't really that appealing. A not so cheap option would be the HHX evolutions, great versatile cymbals that would fit your mold.

Zildjian Z Custom. Really High Pitched and thick as hell.

I'd choose some A Rock hats or AA fusions over the Z's anyday. Just remember to check out all the major 6 or so brands; Zildjian, Paiste, Sabian, Meinl, Bosphorus, Istanbul, and any other that you can.

Yea I hate the Z Customs too but a lot of punk drummers use them/have used them. The guy from Primus uses them I believe.

i think he means brain uses them. i'm pretty sure tim alexander never used Zs. and yes i would say A mastersounds, nice sound however played. i'm actually trying to sell mine as they are not articulate enough for my new change in tastes.

Zildjian New Beats = best all around hats my friend.

And since a high pitch sound is desired, I would go with the 13" model. Higher pitched as well as lower priced.

If you want to really up the punx, search around for a set of 13" 3000 RUDE or the original RUDE hi-hats (regular or sound-edge) ... not only will you have that higher-pitched sound you're looking for, but you'll have the old-school looking hats as well! :)

I'd say Sabian B8 hats, they are cheap and have a good bright sound. They kind of get a bad rap because they are a beginner cymbal.

No, they get a bad rap because they sound like crap.

I play alot of punk/hardcore stuff, and i'm a drummer on a budget. I personally like the sabian xs20 rock hats! They're prefect for punk, and they don't break the bank. I think if you're on a budget, they're the way to go... If you want to spend more, i presonally would go with the aa metal-x ones, or the sabian aax x-celator (excuse the spelling). Go with what your ears like...
