So, I'm interested in buying some new cymbals for the kit I'm building at home and I would like to try some Alchemy cymbals.
I was wondering if a few of you could give me the rundown on their cymbal lines, and if you own some tell me about it in comparison to other cymbal makers.
Also, if you have any pictures or sound clips or really anything pertaining to Alchemy.

What about Bosphorus?

Hi there. I have some Alchemy's. I have a 22" Professional China which is amazing. Just the right amount of trashiness and sustain. I have a 12" professional power splash that is the best splash I have ever owned (I've owned a customs, k's and Sabian's of all sizes). I heard it at NAMM and had to get it! I also have a 24" Proffessional raw ride coming next week. It is pure rock cymbal! It has a huge ping, but it is a darker ping compared to a Paragon or Zildjian Ping ride. It is an amazing looking cymbal as well. Once I get it I will try and post pics and sounfiles when I get time.

As far as crashes, I love the Alchemy sweet crashes. They are similar to A Custom crashes, but with more character. They are versatile; can be used for rock, funk, and some people even use them in different jazz settings. Alchemy also just released the Power X line which are big and heavy cymbals made for hard rock. From what I've heard, they are pretty nice! If you want more information, contact Peter at:

www.thecymbalshop.com

He has some Alchemy's in, although they are not on the site yet. I believe he has a few rides, hats and crashes. Call or email him and he can get you some soundfiles. He told me he'd get them up soon, but he will get you a file quicker if you tell him what you are looking for.

I own a 14" Alchemy Regular Hi-hat and I like it a lot. It's very dynamic, trashy and dense, and the chick is quite bright. I also tried 13" Sweet Hats and 15" Regular Hats and they're totally amazing.

I also had a 10" Rock splash which was quite good as well. Just needed to be hit strongly to sound well.

I've listened to their crashes in the store and liked them less. They're quite trashy and that wasn't what I was looking for.

You can hear them on www.superstitionpercussion.com or www.cymbalsonly.com (for Bosphorus).

I swear by them; they're all I have in my set-up and I have no desire to look elsewhere. They're 100% (or as it's printed on the cymbals: %100) hand made, cheaper than the big four and sound phenominal to my ears.

What are you looking for exactly? Do you want bright rockish sounding cymbals, darker cymbals with some trash in them? Jazzy sounding cymbals with lots of wash? AGOP has many different lines, so it's hard to narrow them down unless I know what kind of sound you are seaching for. If nothing else, go to www.theycymbalshop.com and listen to some soundfiles and get an idea as to what you are searching for. Whereas the alchemy's are made mainly for rock and hard rock, the AGOP lines can be for jazz, fusion, funk, rock, etc, etc. The soundfiles are pretty darn accurate, so you will get a good ballpark idea of what you like and don't like.

I use all Alchemy stuff right now on my kit. I LOVE them... they sound better than anything I have ever tried.

I am also selling a bunch on ebay if you are interested...... send me a PM and I'll send you links.

Snowdogyyz, I'm looking for dark and trashy more than anything good for laying back but able to grab some attention at the same time if that makes sence.

My Bos' are dark, with a little trash hidden away somewhere in the mix. They also have a nice defined sticking and great ping:wash ratio.

OK, that rules out alchemy's then. Check out the AGOP traditionals or Signatures, maybe some Sultans as well. I have some sultan hi hats that are trashy, but not overly trashy. I have 14" and I just ordered 15" hats as well. Anyway, the trads, sigs, and sultans are a good start. I don't know much about Bosphorous, so the other guys can help you there.
