I have the K Hi Hats and love them to death. The best hats i've ever played and very versatile indeed. You will NOT be disappointed with the Zildjian K Hats.

Regular K's. Get them in brilliant finish if you can, unless you favour very dark sounds.

hmm.. depends on what you're looking for.
K custom dark sounds mellower and sweeter and I would probably take it over the K hats if it wont be played for rock much.
A friend of mine uses K custom darks but doesnt play much rock, they sound amazing eitherway. Anyone know anything about the Hybrid hats? I never really considered them but i see Carter Beauford uses them so i thought id find out more!

i would go with the k hi hat...The k custom dark is not as versatile, they are used mostly for jazz. Definitely go with the K.

Go for the K Hats. They are at home in any style of music.

Never heard K hats, but I do play a set of K Custom Dark hats frequently at school. Not my favorite hi-hats for sure. I prefer my New Beats to these. The pinpoint lathing I think just gives them a sort of mushiness which doesn't complement their medium-thin weight. The closed sound isn't tight and they are crisp enough for fast open-closed swing either. If you wanted hi-hats for a slow, quiet tune, these are the ones then. I'm not impressed at all with the K Custom Dark models. I would imagine the regular Ks would be crisp enough though.

K hats are amazing. Either my second favorite hats, or my favorite. Absolutley awsome.

both the regular k and the k custom dark are plenty versatile. just decide which sounds better to you.

The thing about Carter using them is that he is usually miked up either in the studio or thru a huge PA and this makes a difference. K Zildjians are great sounding cymbals but usually make a disappearing act unless they are miked. It is just like Steve Smith using a Ping Ride. It sounds great with a mic on it and through a 75,000 watt PA. Put with the rock band down the street, unmiked, and you will have a different story. My K Mastersounds are incredible jazz hi hats. I wouldn't use them on a rock gig as they are too dark and will be out of place; I have already tried it!

i think a customs (not necessarily mastersounds or projections) are pretty solid for funk or rock, but for jazz, my personal preference is definely k custom darks (14) although k custom mastersound are decent hats as well

K Hats. Amazing hats -- great sound, works well for every type of music. I have never heard anything better.

not only am i now thinkin of buyin those k hats, but also a z dyno beat bottom so that i can also have that k/z combo.
(me needs to save a lot. sorry girls)
they sell the k/z combo as one set of hats, unless of course you want the option of going k or z bottom

That would be a good option....you would have the bases pretty much covered there!

so i finally brought those k hi hats. got a real good deal i must say. 200$.
the first reaction when i played them on my kit was......well..........they sound different. i was so used to the bright planet Zs that it took me a while to soak up the new dark sound.
But then when i was at work i kept thinking about the way those Ks sounded that i slowly have started falling in love with them. they go well with my 22" k custom medium ride too,

They sound good on their own, but IMO they really shine when other instruments are around. I love 'em.

In my opinion the best sounding hats are the paiste dark energy hats. They are amazing! They are also amazingly expensive which is why I don't own them. But if I had my choice and money wasn't an issue........
