I have an Avedis 20" medium ride. Good mix of wash and ping, pretty sweet but also bright. I'm looking for a versatile zildjian ride which is sweeter and less bright. To be used in funk / rock / pop / latin. I thought of a regular K in brilliant finish, but even though I don't fancy loud stuff, the K might get lost in rock pieces. A customs are sweet for crashes and splashes, but to me they're too washy for rides. Advice is welcome.
Who has tried the A custom medium ride and how does it compare to the A custom ride and Avedis medium ride? Does it go overboard and becomes a very pingy ride or is it still very washy? And what's the deal with the 21" odd size?
Btw, does zildjian still offer K's in brilliant finish?

The solution I suppose is the Sweet Ride, very similar sound but like "edited" to sound better. I have a medium ride too, and I'm not sure what to do with it either. Another good option is the A Zildjian Vintage ride they make now. Similar to but not as loud as the sweet ride.

Yeah i was gonna suggest the A sweet ride to. I have tried it out in the music store a few times and it sounds really good to me.

The sweet ride is pretty close to what Ive got now. Im looking for a less bright (darker) sound without it being so dark that it gets lost in rock. ind you, Im more into funk & pop than hard rock.

Trust me.. A K ride wont get lost in the mix of anything except maybe the most extreme punk or metal. They are great all purpose rides even in traditional finishes. I had a 20" A Custom ping ride and it was too "Clangy" for my taste. Traded it in on an Avedis 21" sweet ride and absolutely love it. Alot better spread and goes good with all types of music from jazz to hard rock. The bell is incredible also. If I were to get another ride, I'd try the K. One of the most if not THE most used rides in use today.

K Custom Medium rides are not bad either, nice contrast without being really dark at all.

K customs are even softer than K.

2002 or sigs..... if you have to go zildjian than i would recomend the K heavy ride...K's are the only zildjian rides that dont sound like trash cans...
