I'm going to be taking on a major project this spring in overhauling my 1988 Tama Granstars. I've decided to add a couple of toms to the kit (ordering shells and finish myself). The kit is now "silky yellow." This color is virtually impossible to find nowadays so trying to match the new drums to the old will be futile.

So i have decided to re-wrap the kit as i build the additional toms. The Lugs on the new drums will be different but that's ok, i just want the whole kit color to match. So far i am leaning towards silver glass glitter like this:

http://www.jamminsam.com/sliver_glass_on_drums.htm

Bass drum hoops will be black with inlay of the drum color.

What do you guys think? Any "hip" colors out there i should know about?

Any color ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

Hey, really fell in love with those Starclassics and this Gold Crush Glitter finish! Man, it is so beautiful...with natural maple bass drum hoops it would look great...but okay, it`s your decision! =)

We opened for these guys a few weeks back (ignore the Mohawk, they are definitely NOT a punk band, more "southern rock" than anything else). I played this set (with my snare and cymbals) and it looked even better in person than it does in the pictures.

I don't know what the name of the finish, is but it's one of the better looking "glitzy" type finishes I've seen. I generally prefer either 1. Natural or at least natural looking finishes, 2. If it's gonna be some kind of "sparkly" or "flashy" wrap it needs to be something vintage (that gets it past my mental block for whatever reason.) Some of the Starclassic fans here can probably identify it.

BUT this finish is a definite exception to thos rules. Great looking drums - and I'll be playing them again at our gig friday.

I'm refinishing a yellow Granstar kit too! What a horrible color for a wrap, thankfully I've never played them out. They're ugly as sin. Anywho I'd go with a gold, red, or silver sparkle or glitter. Good luck!

That's Tama Starclassic Maple EFX Red Silk. I think they had 3? colors, red, blue and silver.

Ok Karl you have talked me into the natural maple drum hoops.

That gold kit is definately sweet!

Keep the ideas coming!

As I remember, that whole color line was crappy. I went with yellow back then because pink was out of the question and that awful blueish-green color made me vomit and everyone around me had a black drumset.

You wouldn't know where i could find some Granstar 1 lugs (shark's tooth) would you?

Like i said the new toms will be ok if the lugs are different.

This one (http://www.jamminsam.com/satin_fire_orange_on_drums.htm) would be my favorite of the jamminsam finishes. Not a big fand of wraps though, I love natural finishes.

Black glass and red glass look fantastic under lights.
