View Full Version : Drummerworld social event?

just had thoughts and the idea of a massive meet up!

as many members as possible under one roof with their kits set up!

i know a wild idea that would never happen - but the images of a drum conference for everyday drummer world members would be pretty awesome -

ooh and the possibility of all playing one peice of music - like all given the same music sheet! woah the sound of that!

anyway just a daydream i had during this last half hour at work!!!

I've thought about that kind of thing too. That would be awesome but Bernhard has too much stuff on his plate just running the DW we have now so I just stick to daydreams.
Anyways If we do somehow have a DW social event I'll bring some "Southern style" cookies and brownies!

Drummer Karl

That would be incredible, would even come over to Vancouver if I had flight tickets and holiday...I think my father would come with me. Would be definitly great. Such a meeting, get to know many great members...woooow...

On second thought, I'd rather travel to a country in Europe. Germany would be pretty sweet or maybe even Ireland. Vancouver is cool, but why not go somewhere else. I'd go anywhere in the world.

I might be coming out in May actually. Few friends of mine and myself are doin a little tour around Europe in May, so if we're down in Germany I'll let you know and we'll play some jazz haha.

chicago anyone?

i think this is an awesome idea, but the amount of drumsets in 1 building would be way too much. and out of country people would have to ship them.. lol

cool but a wee bit unrealistic

and yes, i agree with the no people in a 10 mile radius lol

Just let me know and I`m sure it won`t be a problem!! man, ameeting with a forum member (you) would be a special thing in my life....you know, talking with you all but never seen in reality, so a meeting would be a pleasure!!

I ran a complicated series of mathematical formulae using the information provided by the Frappr map, and it turns out that the exact central locus for all DrummerWorld members is in Fat Elvis' garage. By an amazing coincidence he happens to live very close to me, so it will only take me a minute to get there but at the end of the day I can just drive home and not have to worry about cleaning up.

But seriously, as mentioned the things working against us are the international nature of this community (too far apart), and the age of so many of our members (too young [and broke] to travel easily). The closest that we got was last month in Anaheim when about a dozen of us gathered at NAMM, but most of our members cannot gain access to NAMM because they are not in the industry.

So here's my suggestion, if anyone is interested. We make plans to meet outside of a scheduled event like NAMM. Ron Dunnett has a dinner for the members of his forum at a restaurant that's just a block from the convention center, so even people who can't get into the show or who have to work during the day can still meet up with their online friends. If we were to plan something similar to this, anyone who wanted to could come, but that doesn't eliminate the fact that most of us are too young and too far away. It's an idea but I think that the vast majority of us will remain "virtual" friends.

But... anyone who is ever in Las Vegas gets dinner on me. And you can bet that if I ever make it back over to Europe I'll be knocking on a few doors.

so THATS why i had 19 drummers knocking on my door at 6 AM. Sweet. And i am in agreement with DB -- vegas is the meeting capital of the world... plenty of hotel rooms and plenty of distractions!

I am all about NAMM next year -- a friend of mind swears he can get me a ticket, so I am going for sure!

Fire up the grill cause here I come!!!
I like Vegas, it's close to home. Plus it's such a small quiet place, maybe a bunch of drummers could liven the place up a bit.
I can make Easter weekend.

My dilemma ... do I drive the car and bring along my new vintage Rogers Mist Blue Kit (and throw in the new Kenny Aronoff snare) ... or plan on borrowing a kit and come with the ol' man on our new motorcycle?
Now, if someone would offer to ship my drums for me, that could solve the problem!

I love the idea for those who are able to attend (finacially & such). If my parents would let my fly alone and take care of myself, for a couple of days, I would so go to Vegas.
Chicago is a great choice speaking that I live 45 min away.

Though something like Florida during wintertime would be fun when its 30 degrees outside for some of us.

EDIT: if not free, than at least very cheap...we would have to make sure to cover the cost of the hall rental....Maybe we could even get a local GC to spnonsor it...

This sounded fun to me but I don't know about y'all but how about percussion games? For example Bernhard might play a groove then DogBreath might do some 'harmony' ,then DB will play a groove and Jason will do some 'harmony' and so on. But make sure (if you don't know what the skill level is of the person next to you) to keep it simple...no weird tempos. Anyways just a thought.

Anywhere in the US or Canada works for me (some much more readily than others, and of course its schedule dependent, but during the summer its nice and open). I think this would be a great idea, but of course, money and transportation will always be issues. It would need a lot of advanced planning- but if it happened it would be awesome- go for the world record of largest drum circle!

My plan- everyone become great friends with whoever at your local NAMM drum shop is who has access to the badges, then get one from them, and we all meet up at NAMM (thats not a scam at all, right...???)

Of course, all from Drummerworld could meet us there also!

It is the second oldest and largest drum show in America (next to Chicago). It is hosted by Jack Lawton, Ludwig Guru and runs the Lawton drum company (refinishing, custom drums, etc.). There are two nights.

The first night is a Friday Night Drum Jam. Anyone can come in and play! Drum sets are provided. That is 8pm to 10pm. The next day is the vintage drum show, over 30 vintage drum dealers! Admission is $5, free parking. Under 12 and spouses are free though.

Hope to see anyone that will be going, especially the drum jam. I couldn't think of a better place to meet then a drum jam eh. Date is October 26 and 27th. Location:

Peppermint Lounge
700 Market Street, Sunbury, PA
