Alright so here's the deal...yesterday my band is playing a battle of the bands and from the get go we're rushed to get on stage. I had to work until 4, pack the car, drive 60 KM to downtown Vancouver, set up, so sound check all before 5:30 from which we were on at 6. Well we got caught in traffic so that set us back 15 minutes. The organizer said the day before that we have to go on at 6 (first band) even though I asked them repeatedly to put us later on in the night. She ignored that request so there I am, sweating from running up and down the 3 story building while carrying my gear, finally sit down with a kit that is really half a**ed set up. The floor tom that the place provided had no legs so they had to put it onto a snare stand.

So we play the first song and my stick smashes into smitherenes!! Literally, it broke it 4 different places. (Promark 5A Japanese Oak...go figure). So I go to grab another stick from my stick bag that's attached to the floor tom...and the bloody thing falls over, taking down my 18" Crash and ride cymbal down with it...needless to say, I'm sitting there playing our most difficult song with one hand. I pulled a Rick Allen and did a fine job I must say...but nothing like that has ever happened to me before. I scrambled to pick everything up when I had a little break in the song...I heard everyone in the crowd laugh which in turn made me laugh...it was fun, and we caught it on tape. Unbelievable!

Oh man! That sucks big time, having all of that happen in a small span of time. A SNARE STAND?!?!?! For your floor tom?!?! Thats something I have never heard of. But its good that you can laugh at yourself, thats for sure!

Peace

Wow sorry to hear that. But we've all had stuff like that happen in we've played in a band. I remember the last gig I ever played (haven't done one since high school), my bass pedal came detached and the guitarist wouldn't give me enough time to put it back on. My floor tom leg collapsed (Ludwig Rocker, the bolt was stripped I guess). and fell to the ground, during a song where a main part of what I played was supposed to be on it. Two friends put it back up but they put it up too high and then I still couldn't play it.

yeah that sucks. And oftenly when i play solo, and i dont put bass drum dots to ground, or there isnt good ground to put, so that bass drum with all toms goes to front, while playing, so after each song i have to take that bass drum to me. or if drums platform is not so large than need, i feel uncomfortable, and i can lay down on the ground with throne over me... (sorry i'm not good at english, but still want to tell something in DW forum ;))

Yea fourstrings that happened to me as well. My bass drum pedal just came flying off so guess what I used......half the time with me foot and then used a stick until the end of the song...all of this in the first song.. hilarious!

I once had a cymbal go flying because the T nut popped off the stand and i didn't know it. When I hit it fell off the stand, I caught it with one hand and tossed it off to the side (on a carpet)

I was borrowing a straight cymbal stand one time at a gig (first one I'd ever played at that) and it collapsed... Also I've had a bass drum almost fall off of a stage from creeping so much

first gig with a new promoter, first song, first bar after the intro, my stick flies out of my hand - past the singers head, and into a member of the crowd....
