Hi All,

Here's my current cymbal setup:

17" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash
22" Bosphorus Stanton Moore Wide Ride
14" Sabian HHX Stage Hats

I'd like a second crash to complement my current setup. Something warm, shimmery, and lower-pitched than my 17" K Custom Hybrid Crash (which is also warm, but a bit more cutting and a higher 17"-cymbal type pitch). I'd like this larger cymbal to be more blending than cutting as well.

Of the three cymbals (18" hhx evolution, 18" vault, 19" vault), which one would you suggest for me?

Thanks,
S

I haven't had too much experience with the vaults so I can't really say there, but the HHX Evo is a nice choice. I might also suggest something such as a HHX Studio crash, I just love mine to death, although it may not have as glassy and shimmering a tone as you may be looking for. Try them out if you can, that's the best way to determine what is best, and with your back turned so there isn't any bias.

I don't have experience with any, but if I were you I'd check out Bosphorus again, I'm sure they'd have a model that would suit you.

I'd go with the evolution, Im not sure that the vaults will be darker than your other crash.

I recently sold a set of HHX Legacy hats, crash and ride.(14,20,17").They sound wonderful by themselves, but when my friend played them with accompaniment, they seemed to "disappear".I am not a Sabian "A" fan,but in an amplified setting, from a distance-they take on a different character.I suppose I would say my preconceived ideas about "dark" cymbals are changing.

Evolution... I was really impressed by the evolution series.

And if you want vaults it be cheaper to go A Custom.. I compared the two randomly when at GC (basically the only thing there good for) and there the EXACT same thing

19" HHXtreme or HHXplosion. Awesome big crash cymbals, either of them will complement your setup nicely.

the Xtreme is drier than Xplosion. I prefer the former over the latter, if I had to choose.

I like these choices and you may want to take that Hybrid 17" and test it out with:

18 or 19" HHXtreme
18 or 19" HHXplosion
18" Evolution.

I am not certain that the 18" Evolution will be low pitched enough against your 17" which would be counterproductive to want you say you want.

i tried the vault cymbals out and the hhxtreme

the vault 17" sounded amazing, i want this cymbal.

its very bright and silvery and shimering ,lovely cymbal

they are both quite different in contrast the hhx sounded more heavy and slightly darker

I have a 17' Vault crash - and I agree it is a very nice cymbal.

I would go with the HHX evolution if you want bleed more than cut. I think you will find vault cymbals slice right through, you may find the evolution crash more rich and it will blend better.

I have a 16" and 18" Vault, I like them a bunch. However, I wouldn't really describe them as particularly warm, but not brittle either. They are bright, clear, almost devoid of overtones. A very pure sound.
