In about four to six weeks, I'll have most of my new kit- ddrum Diatribe in Blue Sparkle Lacquer (new for 2007) 'Player' config and in an additional few weeks an extra 14" floor tom that may also be used as a rack.

The guy told me today it would be a little wait for the blue sparkle lacquer because they had sold out at the trade show. There was a natural finish in the six piece setup that I wanted that was available right away, but I chose to wait for the blue. I figured I've been using the same kit for ten years, what is another two months.

Sizes are 22x18, 10x7, 12x8, 14x12, 16x14, 14x5.5

This is a pic of the kit at Namm

http://www.ddrum.com/namm07/08b.jpg

This is an idea of what I'm going for. I've had my 5pc Premier kit set up this way not long ago and really loved it. It gives me the same feel as the four piece setup I'm using now, only with an extra high tom to the left of my 'main' rack tom, and the extra floor tom to the left of my hats. When I want to just play a four piece, I can just move the 14 up to the rack spot. I imagine that will come in handy for certain gigs.

The cymbals will all be Saluda Mist-X aside from my Diamond crash on the far right (which I need an extra boom for). I'll probably have my new cymbals before the kit arrives. I can't wait! Finally I'll have a decent kit.

Wow that is one purdy kit for sure.

You gotta get some pics of you behind it so we can all drool and comment how you have such a purdy kit!

It's Birch and Basswood...
Very beautiful kit man. Hope (and am sure) you will have a blast with it. What heads are you thinking of slapping on them?

The more I read about Ddrum, the more I'm impressed with what they're doing. Since they're using Keller shells, that certainly puts them in the big league. I've seen and heard both the Dominion and Diode in action and they slam. The Diatribe I've never had the pleasure of witnessing, but I'm sure you'll make a good test pilot for us Sleepy. Very cool. No doubt you are stoked.

But... i must ask... after the last thread, i thought you were surely going to get a that pro-m, what made you pick this instead?

HOW FREAKIN SWEET!!! I love blue...and that finish is smokin!!

Birch and Basswood keller shells.....MUST sound great!! MUST! Ddrum's new stuff for 2007 looks VERY interesting! You were mentioning the 14 floor as a "rack" ....but you list it as a 14x14.....can you clarify?

Also,...are you going with chrome hardware or that black-ish or black-chrome?

Also.... I like your philosophy of your set up....A LOT!! I've often thought that a 5 piece kit like that (without the left side floor) would be a great general purpose kit....if only had to have ONE kit to cover a bunch of stuff without the kit getting too big. Higher tom...medium tom....lower tom.....sweet!!

ANd.....last but not least........What Mist-X have you chosen to add to your Diamond?

The kit is birch and basswood. I wasn't sure if I'd like that type of wood until I actually played on one of the kits last weekend. My Slingerland kit is maple, which I love, but I really love the birch and basswood combo as well. It's different. It cuts. The kit without hardware will run me around $800 to $850 from my favorite local shop. When the 2007 line makes it to MF and GC I wouldn't be surprised if it will be a little cheaper (with hardware and less my extra floor tom will probably pretty close if not the same to what I'm paying), but I love supporting my local drum shop. I don't have an exact price yet. I'm getting the 'Player' set with an extra 14x14 floor tom. The blue sparkle lacquer finish is a bit extra. The kit I played on had a tobacco burst satin finish, which was real nice but to me nothing compares to a high gloss lacquer.

As far as heads I'm going back to Aquarian. I'm thinking SKII/Reg on the kick and clear Studio-X/not sure of reso on the toms. I want to try one of Aquarians snare heads out as well but I'm not sure which one.

About the Pro-M- For starters, I couldn't try it out. I really wanted to try out my new kit to make sure it was something I'd be happy with for a long time. After some thinking, I decided I didn't want a kit with larger sized drums because I didn't want to be locked into that sound. The kit I'm getting I feel is a nice balance. When I want to go the 4pc route I'll be able to take the 10 and 12 toms off and put the 14" up as a rack. With a SKII head the 22 sounds like a 24. I also have a 24" kick already, if I really need that sound.

Thanks all and I really am stoked about this kit. It will be a long two months. Hah!

Sleepy...

Like I asked....how can you use a 14x14 floor tom as a rack tom? lol

Also...in the 2007 "downloadable" catalogue from Ddrum ...they say that the toms are 7x10 - 8x12. amd a 14x22 bass....that's got to be wrong because the picture they have is YOUR kit and its obviously 8x10 and 9x12 .....looks great in the catalogue and it's configured right!!

Sweeet kit,i'm also considering ddrum they are really on the ball but i'm looking at there "dios ST" kit the kit has a 20"x24" bass drum,10",12" toms & 16" floor tom with a 7"x13" snare the reason i'm considering is because the shells are african bubinga inner ply's and aspen outer ply's(out of the ordinary) with a stripe sparkle finish.my local drum shop said they won't. available for 4 months.that will give me time to save.LOL,I think you're really gonna enjoy that kit, congrats.

It's black nickel chrome plated. Love the look.

I liked those sized toms for versatility as you mentioned. The extra 14 will help give me another med-low tom for the tom grooves I like to do.

I already have an 18" Mist-X full crash along with my 16" Diamond Thin Crash. I'll be getting 14" Mist-X rippled bottom hats, 16" Mist-X Full Crash, 8" Mist-X Splash, and a 20" Mist-X Rock Ride. From that point, my next cymbal upgrade would probably be more Diamonds but that is some time away so it's only a dream for now.

The guy at the shop said we could get a rack mount for it. I know it would be a bit deep as a rack though, heheh. I'm mainly going to use it as a floor. I recently found out about a drummer who has used a 16x16 floor tom as a rack, with an 18x16 floor. The shop owner said he's used a 16 as a rack as well. In fact, Taye has these cool tom mounts on their kicks that allow the use of over sized rack toms like that.

You're right about what's printed in the '07 catalog. I just took those sizes off the site. I actually remember him mentioning 22x20 kick, which is in a Diatribe catalog I've seen. Kind of confusing. He said he'd get back to me on the actual depths, so I just took what was on the site for now. How can you tell the sizes from the picture? I love the catalog pic. That's how I want to set up mine, only I'll be attaching the rack toms to my rack and not a cymbal stand.

I'll have to call the shop owner tomorrow to find out for sure. I would love a 22x20, but at least a 22x18 kick. I also just sent off an email to ddrum for more info.

I heard a 20x20 Dios Exotic Wood (Bubinga) last weekend with a SKII/Reg and it sounded awesome. That is definitely a nice kit.

FYI......ddrum does NOT use keller shells.....not sure where this was started....

The maple kits are North American Hard Rock Maple....ash kits are swamp ash(asian)

The USA custom kits are built by Allegra out of Oregon....

Of course! I'm already planning to set them up in the living room as soon as they arrive. hahah! It will be a couple months though. I'll have my new cymbals first though.

Haven't heard back from ddrum yet, but I did talk to the guy at the shop today who clarified it with me. He actually called his supplier to verify as well. He said the '07 catalog has to be wrong. The 14x22 kick was their old standard years ago.

The sizes I will be getting are 18x22, 7x10, 8x12, 12x14, 14x16, and 5.5x14. He said we can get a RIMMs type mount for the 14" so I can mount it up as well. It may not match the others though. I'm not sure if ddrum makes a suspension mount for 14s. I'm not too worried about that though.

When I called he was on the phone with his case supplier, and said they had some hard shell cases they were trying to blow out. I can basically get hard shells for about the same or a little bit more than the soft ones! I'm talking like $45 for a hard shell case. I'm not sure of the brand. More details on that in a couple weeks.

I can't wait for my new Saludas. I'm just waiting on my tax return to hit my checking account then I can send off my trade in and get my new brass.

would you say the wood is very deep sounding?I still haven't. heard a bubinga kit yet.

Well, the bubinga I heard was only a 20x20 kick, and with a SKII/Reg head combo it definitely had that nice punch to it. It would be kind of hard to compare since the only kicks I have are 22 and 24. It sounded great. It sounded like more than I can afford. hah!

The blue finish is very attractive. The cymbals sound good too. Have fun waiting for them though ^_^.

Ya, I almost jumped on the same set in a satin natural finish just because I could have had it within a week... but I'm spending a decent amount of money on this thing I figured I should get what I really want. I can live with the kit I have until then. I have for ten years so, what's another couple months right? I'll be dreaming of it every night though.

Feel like sending those premiers myway? Just kidding haha.

Well I would offer to sell em to ya for sure. Although they are pretty beat up. The rack toms can't use reso heads without re-cutting the bearing edges, and those shells will have to lose an inch or two in depth to make that happen because of the wear. I'm just planning on trading them in to my local shop to use towards new cases, heads, my new kit, etc.

From what I understand, their lower priced kits are made in China- which is why I have to wait a couple months for my kit. All the ones originally made sold out at the trade show (Namm I take it), and the factory has to make some more and boat them on over.

I actually sent off an email to Funky Monkey to get a third reference on the shell sizes. Haven't heard back yet. The wait for an '07 Diatribe kit will more than likely be the same from any shop. The distributor sold out. More need to be made. All the online shops that I've seen carry the Diatribe have the older models. I'm getting an '07 one.

I could have gotten an '07 in a natural finish, or any of the older models with hardware for cheaper within a week. However, I want that blue sparkle lacquer. It must be mine. The older models have mounts on the kick as well, which I didn't really want since I have a rack.
