Check out any Dave Garibaldi book. I just recently bought his book "future sounds," its a decent book, but a tiny bit boring.

Not sure what level your at but exploring paradiddles between the hi-hat and snare is a good place to start....work as many different permutations as you can with the bass drum shadowing the hat...
Concentrate on keepin the ghost notes soft and explore different accents on the snare...
Just some general ideas to start with....
FYI - Garabaldi's book is anything but boring....its very hard and demands that you have good technique as you are required to accent on the second bounce on the snare...you also need to have your swiss triplets together....

Listen to the band "Secrets." Its the band that Carter Beauford is very proud of that he played in. I can't recommend a song cuz they are all good.
