Why those two? Have you tried out the Yamaha Stage Custom? Greatest intermediate kit for less than $1100. I strongly suggest the Yamaha over any of the two that you've mentioned, as well as the Tama Superstar. Do not get the Pearl....you will seriously regret it.

I own a Cabria and like it very much, however I bought them the last year they were being made in England, not Asia. My brother owns the Exports and never has anything bad to say about them.

depends what you want / what you have now / beginer / intermediate etc.
both them kits are great starter / beginer kits but lack if you want something a bit more special.
im a mapex fan personally - better build and sound.
check out M series for a basic kit
let us know what your looking for

Why do you say that? My pearls sound great! the hardware is among the best and since pearls are so popular add on and stuff can be found everywhere. Plus pearl is doing the Vision now which is even better than the export

Keep an eye on the Exports, because from now on Export series will have all-maple shells, so drumstores are selling out the old Exports with incredible discounts!

I have an export in the corner collecting dust because it sounds terrible!! Even with great new heads, they sound terrible and the hardware is anything but good. I don't like the mounting system that pearl uses either. If ye ask me, you'll be much happier with something like the Yamaha Stage Custom, or better yet the Yamaha Tour Custom...Maple Shells, AMAZING sounding kit for around 1200.

Personally, I'd be checking out Mapex M series, Sonor 2000 and 3000 (whatever the last number is now), Tama Superstar, Gretsch Catalinas (maple, ash or birch), and probably the ddrum offering in that price range as well as the aforementioned Yammy Stage Custom. I'd be leaning towards the kits with shells made of a single, pure wood. Mapex M-pro would be the first to check out if you can, as they have Rock Maple shells, not asian maple (like the sonors and the Yamaha Tour Customs).Next on my list would be birch or ash kits.

Funny thing. I dropped a tama kit for my pearls. And you wont regret a pearl purchase. Good company. Good drums. But I would steer away from the premier. Oh and by the way. Pearl just upgraded the export line.
I just amazes me at times how some are so against pearl. Frankly my tama kit was trash. Sorry to say...

Yep my 2 cents!

Well It depends which tama kit and which pearl you are comparing. People only have somehting agianst the pearls with ISS mounts, and the exports. If you compare a tama swingstar with pearl reference, theres obviously no competition!

The premier is a pretty good starter kit. I have a premier cabira metallic and its served me well. I didn't like the fusion sizes though, its hard to get a good floor tom sound with 14x11. Depending on the music you play you might wanna look for something with a 16x16 tom. If fusion type music is your style you may wanna take that.

I feel that I say this to everybody that is looking for a intermediate kit, but go Tour Custom! They should be far better than both the pearl and the premier! They go for $950 on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Yamaha-Tour-Custom-5-Piece-Shell-Pack-Sakura-White_W0QQitemZ280081272317QQihZ018QQcategoryZ6444 4QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

If I was to buy Pearl, it would have to be Master series or Reference....nothing else from Pearl impresses me.
