Hey everyone! My name's David and I've been drummin for about 2 years now, but I practice atleast 2 hours a day and the last couple months I've really been focusing on rudiments. I use a lot of the Vinnie Colaiuta style paradiddle-diddle sextuplets in this; kinda jazzed by it at the moment. The beginning is bland and kinda stupid. I use a lot of single footed doubles, and the only double bass I use is for triplets (for all those who have a problem with too much double bass. ;) )

I could use any pointers! Be a critic, I can take it. =)

BTW: There's a part in there where I kinda practice a roll over and over again.. ignore it. Ha ha ha. I think I forgot I was on camera.

For drumming only two years, you are seriously good. I mean really, really good. I have been playing for about 2 years also and you are about 10 to 15 times better than me!!!!

Congratulations! You must have natural talent and incredible drive and dedication to play this well.

Keep practicing! You have a lot of natural talent that can take you places. Make the most of it!

Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm 16, I started playing when I was 14.

My dad's got loads of old music gear cause he used to be a touring musician I got a sound card and kinda slapped together a space for recording.

I wish I was good enough to offer good suggestions. Ha ha.

For 2 years of playing that's very nice!! I would like to see some more grooving though...

Did you tune the drums yourself, because they sound great, and tuning skills are just like drumming skills in the way that they take a lifetime to master. So there you have definatly come a long way already!! Congrats :)

I normally get most compliments on my tuning. My drum-set is a horrible $250 model with a good snare, tom, and foot pedal. I got converted to coated heads when trying to make them sound nice and resonant but still have lots of attack (I wanted them to sound like Tony Royster Jr. at the time, he has great tom tone)

I got really good at tuning when trying to make it sound like my favorite artists. I have tuning techniques I use to emulate my heroes. Ha ha.

I think I'm gonna make a groove track along to something from Turn-it up and Lay It Down.

I need some help with setting my drums up so that I don't hit rims when I do rolls that include all my toms. Anyone know a good video that explains this?

I watched it and I like it, I'm also 16 and have been playing for 5 years. The one thing is that it sounded very repetitive.... who are your influences? I would sugest taking them and groove out "like" them... for instance if you really like Carter Beauford then try messing around with some broken hi-hat stuff... Steve Gadd = More linear type grooves. The more diverse it is, the more tasty it is. "Too many cooks spoil the broth..." doesn't aply to drumming.

I have loads of influences sometimes they just don't shine through. My main influences are:

JoJo Mayer
Danny Carey
Vinnie Colaiuta
Keith Carlock
Billy Ward

And of course I listen to lots of different drummers. I'm having troubles with being creative and keeping good time at the moment... I need to practice with a metronome more often.

Edit: All the grooves I use in that little video (excluding the beginning) are from Tool songs. Ha ha.. Just realized it. Someone needs to post a good explanation of the JoJo Mayer style jungle/break-beat!!!

Nice job. You are on the right road for sure. The positive side are the follow:
1 You are very fluid, your are using your wrists and not your arms.
2 The placement of your drums and cymbals are excellent, close to you with little movement.
3 You have a natural feel.

The negative is the following:

1 Just time, try to read and practice rudiments, yes all 26.

hey, nicely done. you have great stick control, and really move around the drumset great! very good for 2 years. my advice would be to get some really good grooves goin with a little more hi-hat/ride/cymbals in general goin around in there. but great playin!

I thought it was good, very good for only two years. I onle have three words for you: Metrenome, meternome, metrenome. Actually thats just the same word three times, but thats how important it is. You are just kinda shoving your chops into places and manipulating the time so you can do them at the very fastest. And sometimes its cool to play something a little slower so the listener doesnt get bored with the paradiddle, paradiddle diddle combinations. Also, flams, when used effectively, can totally kill. I really dig the part around three minutes, thats really cool. I think like a few other people have said, this is just missing groove and you arent developing your ideas. You start doing something really awesome and then you just abandon it for the same chop we already heard. Stick with you ideas is what Im trying to say. It was really good though man, I enjoyed hearing you. I cant imagine what youll be like in 10 years if this is only 2. Nice work.
