It must be good, its worth 600$ isnt it?
I have heard though that it untunes somewhat easily.
I think FranklinJ has one but im not sure it might be someone else. It seems a bit pricy for me to buy.

anything with gadd on it tends to be overpriced. i've never tried one but i have heard good things so if you can find a good deal go for it. personally if i was gonna spend that kinda money i would get the mike bordin one that this is gorgeous and sounds amazing.

It's overpriced and sounds terrible. No BS about this at all. It sounds great when he plays it...but to hear it for yourself it really sucks.
Sorry...

I'm going to have to agree with this. Never liked the snare. My Pearl Steel snare sounds better than the Steve Gadd Snare.

Funny you guys don't like it (I respect you opinion.) I have the maple shell that I bought at Guitar Center for 450 dollars 5 years ago when I was paying a visit to my uncle in San Francisco and I think the snare sounds great. Most musicians I have played with seem to like it, they just complain that it's a loud snare lol. Personally I'm happy with it. The snare also has a special meaning to me since my Uncle drove me around SF although he was very ill to get me this snare...

its really that bad huh? I actually didnt really like the sound of the snare in the crazy army video of him, and the 3 new vids of him up near the top of his page, but i thought it was the recording considering i always like the sound every other time i heard it on this site.

I've owned two of the Gadd snares. I had the older model steel with metal hoops and now have the newer steel with the wood hoops. I like the snare. It has good tunable range to it. It's much better through mics and when recording IMO. I've had both and I do like the newer one because of the wood hoops. If you are a hard hitter, then it probably will detune a bit faster then the metal hooped ones. I'm not so I don't have that problem.

We have a winner.
To those who think it sounds bad, try recording with it- its a dream. I had a recording on a POS four track and it sounded amazing. At the gigs ive played, it sounds really, really nice. Its made for mics or something.

Steve was rumored to be using a Supraphonic (5x14") on all of the recordings back in the day. Heads were Coated ambassador with a studio ring (equivalent to a Powerstroke 3) and a snare side ambassador. This is just kind of FYI.

I think so too. I am laying down the drum tracks for my bands demo right now and the sound is very pleasing.

I don't know if you have made your decision yet, but here is a little example of how the 14" x 5" Maple Gadd snare can sound. Obviously, I have tuned the snare to my tastes for the recording but it has a nice tuning range. This sound clip is raw - no enhancements whatsoever. Hope this helps.

Exactly except I was thinking "It BETTER be good..it's worth $600..."
Yamaha's Signature snares are some of the most overpriced snares and I've always wondered if any of them were worth the hype and extra money. The sound in the clip recently posted sounds great, nothing like I thought it would sound. I've always liked Steve's sound too, but you can get a similar sound easier IMO.
