Hello guys and girls..
Has anybody used one of these? What do you think of them? Versatile?

They're one of the most popular hat combos that Zildjian sells. Great crisp, cutting sound, the lighter K makes for some good open sound and foot splashing. The 13" variety is the most popular, and higher pitched and more cutting. The 14" set is a little lower pitch.
I own the 13" set.

Just to clear up:
Dyno Beat = Z top and Z bottom
Special K/Z = K top and Z dyno beat bottom.
I have a pair of 14" special K/Z hats, they are my favorite hi hats and work great on my Jazz gigs. They are definately darker than the 13". I use new beats for rock and big band playing.

You know they must be good Hi Hats if Carter Beauford uses them.

I have the 13" version and I sometimes think that they may be a little too high pitched.

How do you find the new beats? Brighter and splashier? Which ones do you prefer k/z or new beats?

13 are awesome. They are clean, splashy and yet a little trashy. I love them.

I had that as my first pair of hats, and I honestly hated them. I thought they just sounded bad.

My New Beats are 14". I grew up on this sound which may explain why the 13" K/Z sounding high-pitched. You would think that it would be the other way around, but I think that the Dyno Beat bottom really does push the high frequencies.

I've heard lots of people say that K hats and HHX stage hats are pretty close in sound. Do you think a combo of HHX top + Dyno beat bottom would sound good?

My 13" New beats are very bright and splashy. In fact they are a little too "pie panish" sounding for my taste. I'm trying to sell or trade them right now.
I did not like the 13" K/Z hats but my 14" K/Z's sound great. They are much darker sounding. I had alot of complaints from band members on rock gigs in which they complained the 14" K/Z's sounded dead and flat so I used my new beats for those situations. The 14" K/Z's as i said in an earlier post work well on my jaz gigs.

Well I guess depends what music you play... I think that K hats wont be suitable for loud rock music unless they are miked up properly...
But sounds logical that new beats would be more hipitched and brighter..

I got some of these. They're cool, and can be loud, so if you're playing funk or something like that they're good. Possibly a little too loud for jazz, but i'd say most modern hats are too harsh for jazz really, cymbals need to be played in to mellow, in my opinion. The chick is quite harsh. But I'd say they'd be fine for loud rock music. Just tell your guitarist to hold off a bit - it doesn't have to be super loud to rock.
