I have been looking for some nice Sabian hats to complement my other AAX and Vault cymblas and i came across these HHX hats on ebay. My only question is that these appear to be TWO top hats instead of ONE top and ONE bottom. Anyone feel free to throw some input in on this one. Also,if they are indeed TWO top hats, would you think they would still sound nice? I am currently using my 14'' Pro Hats and they arent bad at all,i would just like to upgrade. Thanks guys

They do look like two top hats. My HHX Groove Hats have the Sabian logo on the bottom. I'm sure they would still sound fine, just alittle different than what a correct pair would sound like. Especially if you can get them at $100 or under I'd say go for it.

Thanks Fourstring. Any others have an opinion?

Your hats are two tops, but even so I'd definately go for them.

I had a story alike. A great deal as well. http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120050504233
(The bottom looks like a groove bottom, but it's a stage. Also the bell of the top hat is unhammered, but it still sounds great. )

Hey, sorry to hijack your thread but it seems like your questions been answered and this doesnt really deserve a new thread. On the topic of ebay,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Zildjian-Avedis-Flat-top-ride-18-NO-LONGER-PRODUCED_W0QQitemZ230085330460QQihZ013QQcategoryZ1 0174QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Avedis flat rides, iv seen a few of them about but dont know much about them, they seem to be selling for pretty cheap. Anyone have any experience, is there something wrong! with them? I was thinking of picking one up to add some variation to my ride line up.

Regarding the two top hats. . . the only difference is the ink logo. That 'bottom' might be a little lighter than a normal bottom, but it should make no difference, really. You might just get a slightly lighter sound.

It should, and probably will make a difference.
It all depends on what you want really.
I say go for it, you can always buy a bottom hat later if you really want one.

Also on the subject of ebay, for UK only:

I read a sparkling review of these drums in a magazine. looks like a steal, no one has bid on it yet. I would buy it if I had the money, and you could always sell it on ebay again, probably at a profit!

I guess when I said it 'wouldn't make a difference' I didn't really mean it that way. What I was implying was that the manufacturing techniques and characteristics, and even the dimensions are likely very similar. They just typically put heavier cymbals on the bottom. And before they put an ink-stamp on the cymbal that says "Top" or "bottom" they probably look nearly identical with the exception of the weight (and subsequent affects on the pitch and other sound qualities).
