My friend works at a thrift store. They had a chad smith sig. snare come in that was in just about perfect condition (a few minor scratches and in need of a head). I practically jumped for joy when he told me it was $50. Was this a good buy? I figured it had to be considering they go for 240 new. It's not quite my sound (my primary snare is a tama warlord 6x14 bubinga) but for 50 bucks, it has to at least be a good backup...

You definitely can't go wrong picking up a Chad Smith sig for $50. That's a steal!

'Tis supposedly a very good snare, and indeed at a very good price. Congratulations.

Helluva Deal! Congrats.
I paid $399 CND when it first came out!
Like I've posted before, it's become my go-to snare.
De-tune the reso to medium (about 75 on drumdial) , slap an Evans Genera Dry batter head on at a bit higher than medium tension (about 80), and an inexpensive set of Gibralter 42 strand wires, and wow!
cheers

i think i am gonna try the 42's on mine. I have the blasters on right now, which are very good. But all this talk of the 42's.... i want to be in the cool kids club too!
