Just wanted to once again flaunt this great little snare.
I've had my CS for about 6 years now, and although I have my Sonor Delite snare, the CS is still my "go to" drum.
Is there a better snare value on the market? Don't believe so.
I run an Evans Genera Dry (not HD Dry) along with a set of 42 strand snare wires.
De-tuned a bit, with the reso head at medium-low, and the batter at medium, this snare rocks!
When you consider it's under $300, it's unbelievable
Cheers

I concur.....I use a Evans Genera, Hazy 300, w/ equalizer wires..

I picked up mine for $162......

I put die-cast on the batter side.....absolutely love this thing

I have to agree with you on this. I love the versatility of the Chad Smith Snare. I go to that drum and my Ludwig Supraphonic, they are both great sounding snares. The Chad Smith is a great drum for the price.

i would disagree with your estimation of the best snare value on the market.... until you've played a ludwig acrolite, i don't think that statement can be merited

the acrolite uses the *exact* same shell as the much more expensive supraphonic, with the only differences from the supra being different finish (flat gray vs. chrome) and number of lugs (8 vs. 10).

a good condition acrolite from the 70s can be had on ebay for far less than $100... i recently purchased one and it is an absolutely *amazing* snare drum

Yeah, you maybe right, but I was talking about "new" pricing.
Actually, I've been looking at the Acrolites on E-Bay, and have bid a couple of times, but lost out.
They seem to be sought after that's for sure.
Funny, 'cause I believe that the Acrolite was designed to be a "student" drum by Ludwig, but seems to have become very popular.
I probably lost out on my bid to you!!
Cheers

I 1000% agree with this. My school has an Acrolite and it has to be one of my favorite snare drums ever. It has a fat, crisp tone that doesnt ring but doesnt sound choked. There's a reason why they're classics. Ask any sound engineer what his 5 favorite snares for recording are, chances are the Acrolite is gonna be on the list.

This is kinda random but I chad smith's snare drums too fat sounding. Just my opinion.

the CS is indeed a fantastic snare drum, had the pleasure of playing a couple of them, but I keep going back to my free-floaters, I would seriously reccomend you at least try one. If you do decide, get one with a metal shell, as you can always get a custom drum manufacturer to knock up a wooden shell you can drop in the chassis, now that's a versatile drum, I have a 14x3.5 and a 14x6.5 both in a maple shell, and got a brass shell for the smaller, will try and get sound files up soon so you can hear

Any of you CS owners have any issues with the strainer? For me, with the snares off, I get quite a bit of audible rattle from the strainer. (No problems with the snares on).
